Use a good synthetic, R4 from Castrol is awsome and is always my choice, That being said, there are others that are just as good. If you want to run a factory oil, then Yamaha has the best synthetic on the market.

I run a gear oil in my 600 per manufactorer recommendations; for the busa it was full syn moto oil(motul) and I forget what I run in the new project Honda.

If I run a synthetic in the 600 the gears bang as I shift because I need a thicker oil to suppress the clutch engagement. That lasted a week before I flushed and refilled.

I'd recommend calling one of our sponsors for their opinions. Patrick(Motorcycles Unlimited) is a wealth of knowledge on the subject as will others be

Rotella would have worked fine...it is all I use in the bikes and would run it in my diesel too if I didn't get a great deal on Delvac
