goodness, think we at MH have posted enough for her to read when she gets back?

Everyone keeps throwin this motorcycles unlimited down her throat. Dont get me wrong, im a big fan of Motorcycles Unlimited. I think they hold a great lil business full of intelligent and hard working people and they are good at getting back to you in a timely manner.

However, the reason i suggested her to have a male friend go with her to check it out was cuz being a woman, its difficult without the proper equiptment to take it over there (if the present owner wont meet her there with it). That is all. And alot of owners wont let her take it out of their eyes to go get it checked out, in fear the potential buyer is fraud and wants to steal it!

Thanks for the responses.

So the seller says the guy who sold it to him is a mechanic that rebuilt the bike. Seller has had it 3 months but just got divorced and wife took the truck, so now he needs to get car ASAP and wants to get rid of bike for trade or cash. The bike has 29k on it, seller says the tags are all good until next year the bike is under his name and has good insurance on it; its been garage kept there is "absolutely nothing wrong with the bike. the tires are in good shape."

Here is a pic of the bike:

oh yeah I forgot to add: I will not buy a used bike from a individual seller without having someone I trust check it out.

Also, I don't have any way to transport the bike - what's the best way to do this? Do I need some sort of a trailer to haul it around? When I do get a bike I don't even want to drive it to parking lots to practice, just transport it there and then start it up in my practice lot.

If possible bring a friend who is at least familiar with VIN #'s, titles and basic mechanicals.

Failing that, you're welcome to have the seller bring it by the shop anytime and we'll do a free visual inspection and test drive, as well as give you the paperwork you'll need to transfer the bike.

I just asked seller to either meet me up at Motorcycles Unlimited this weekend for an inspection or to take it up there before then w/o me...he said he would try but wants to sell fast. I just told him I wouldn't buy w/o Motorcycles Unlimited inspection.

Patrick - when are you all open? Weekends? How do I make an appt for inspection?

Now, get that bike over there, get some seat time on a bike....then, next comes 'do a track day' to be crammed down ur throat by motohouston!

if u start of wearing all gear, u'll get to skip that lecture from everyone (thats the one that comes right before the track day speech, if not at the same time)

Those are good speeches! Besides each new person needs to hear them and we have rehersed them so many times it would be a shame not to use them.

rite on.

however, there are other smaller things to be taughttoo. Gosh.... I was so beyond lost in the beginning. I didnt even know the difference in 600 vs 1000? Who patrick was? Lord forbid all those stupid acronyms like: ibtl, pp1 etc, mh, TWS (Texas World Speedway), msrh, etc... it took me 3 solid months to quit stalling the bike everytime i took off and a year and a half of riding to learn how to change my own oil Hopefully she will be quicker than I

Shouldn't be too hard.

BTW (that means by the way) the acronyms are:
In before the lock
Poser point 1
Etcetera
MotoHouston
Texas World Speedway
Mercedes Southwest Raceway Houston(originally named Motor Sports Ranch Houston)
and for some reason etcetera again.

the first etc was for all the pp's

1,2,3,4

all the pp's are various starbuck locations, where people ride to sit/stand and drink coffee. The PP stands for- poser point

and the second etc were for all the different track acronyms.

I wish there was an educational thread for all newer riders to teach forum life and actual riding stuff. That would have saved me a lot of headache. everything from stupid acronyms to what different tires are used for . haha

, there should be ones for ppl like me too, "the good from far, but far from good" type ( no pun intended )

Is it realistic to think I can get a bike for less than $1500 that will be a quality safe bike to learn on? I don't really care if its a 250, but nothing more than a 600.

Unfortunately, it is very hard to tell if a bike was rebuilt properly from a single shot taken at a distance of 10'. Patrick will quickly be able to tell you whether the bike was rebuilt properly or not. You are definitely heading the right direction by having the bike inspected prior to purchase.

G/L with your potential purchase.
