Thanks for the info dude.
Actually, I've done it three times on a bicycle. Absolutely great bicycle roads where you have to go five mph or less to get up the hills. On the River Road there is a a half mile climb with a 15 percent grade, steepest in Texas.

Just did this trip last week. Get to San Antonio on I-10 and then switch to US90 through Del Rio, Sanderson, Marathon. Stay the night in Del Rio so you are rested up for the fun stuff. Keep in mind hotels in Marathon and Alpine are still 1+ hours out of the park. You can get gas in Terlingua, but it aint cheap. River Road to Presidio is awesome, as is the Davis Mountains scenic loop.

I made a 1 day trip back from Alpine, starting 8:00 a.m., included RR337 from Camp Wood to Vanderpool as a Hill country jaunt, and was back in Houston at 8:00 p.m. I was hurting the next day, though.

This sounds like a great idea, I'm just leary about doing it at this time of the year. I drove to Van Horn for work last week and got snowed on. Speaking of travelling armed, I believe its against the law in the park isn't it? Not that I actually care, just thought I'd mention it.

Don't forget to see the Marfa Lights. Any upstanding Texan should do that at leats once in their life.

Also, River Road between Presidio & Lajitas is awesome (as others have mentioned).

I always make a couple stops at some sites of one of my all time favortite movies : Fandango.

Dude, Fandango is the greatest movie of all time! I have to see that DOM rock! Could you please let me know where to find it. Looks like a pretty epic adventure. I am going to plan a trip in March it looks like-gonna dual sport it-trailering the bikes up. Second best movie of all time Fear and loathing in Las Vegas.

The way to do big bend is on a dual sport. There is so much to see that you can't see from the paved roads. Plus the paved roads are not great for carving anyway with tourists, park rangers and slow speed limits.

I've done it on a street bike and a dual sport and it's dual sport FTMFW!!
