Be aware..

..that after all of the highway prep going on now there are going to be areas with gravel scattered about for a few days to follow.

Be careful.

Very True

Rode to Beaumont Saturday morning for a fallen rider benefit, COLD(28 degrees when left Houston)!!!!!!!! And all the bridges and overpasses were full of gravel. Bunch that up with the ice and you get massive things flying off the road, one caugth me in the knee, brought me back to pre-k when someone stole my transformer, pure pain.

why cant Houston just do the same as everywhere else in the world instead of some stupid alternative that is even more dangerous than the ice/snow?

By that do you mean salt?

Salt sucks , been there done that in IA... In CO they use certain chemicals that inhibit freezing. This is the best alternative IMHO.

Shoot, with all the rain, snow, gravel, salt, sand etc.... why doesn't everyone just chill for a couple of weeks. Let the weather get better and road conditions improve. No sense in taking any unnecessary risks.

Salt melts the snow, then it freezes into ice. Salt also gets tossed up under the cars and bikes, hence the reason you see so many cars up north with the bottoms rusted off.

Colo uses ash, sand and chemical mix that doesn't promote rust, when they even put it down. Snow has great traction with the proper tires, and it doesn't melt off that fast up there. Just plow the road and leave a good packed base...

I don't know why they even bother down here; it will be gone and melted in a few hours anyhow.

but this is the kinda place that when we do get snow, everybody goes 'whoa! so pretty! lets go drive in it!" and still expect to be able to race around, and if they dont race around and wreck then they're going 20 in a 65.
