not even close

edit - well, with religious devotion to maintenance a sport bike may last as long as a poorly maintained ford fiesta.

depends on what type of bike. there are lots of sport-touring bikes that'll go 100k easily, i'm pushing close to 60k on my bandit myself, and not burning any oil or showing any other signs of the engine being unhealthy.

goldwings are known for going much more than 100k

take a 600 ss bike, ride it hard a couple of times a week, neglect OIL CHANGES, valve adjustments, etc and you could do 50K or less.

all bikes die at 38,712 miles.

really though, maintenence is the deciding factor, they're commonly old as by the time they hit 50k since bikes arent ridden as frequently as cars are driven so its not common to hear about bikes with very high mileage (50k+) and if they do have that many miles the engine is likely replaced or they've had 1 or maybe two owners through the life of it.

um yeah, thats way to many oil changes.........esp. if your running syn oil now maybe if you were racing, every weekend. but 3k you'll be fine.

my bike had 52k when i sold her , ran great. most bikes get crashed out before the motor craps out.

Mileage has so many variables.
The higher the specific performance (hp/displacement) the lower the life expectancy; all other things being equal.
Since the duty cycle of most sport bikes lie in the horrendous to "OMG what TF are you doing to me?" category the low life expectancy of a sport bike is typical (I worry about some <5K bikes).
The primary source of any engine wear/degradation is during start up or (on some models) during extended power wheelies. This is when the oil has pooled at the bottom of the engine (especially when left over winter) or away from the oil pick up and the moving parts are now a metal on metal interface (not recommended). When I would work on getting "barn find" cars we would tear down and lubricate the engine's moving parts or, at the very least, prime the oil system through the distributor inteface (not really practical on a bike). Patrick may know if turning the engine over without spark is even recommend or helpful.
With proper maintenance and non-"hot rod" driving (what's the point?) a small to mid sized engine could easily push a bike over 100K and larger displacement touring bikes 200 to 300K (look up BMW longevity sometime).
I am more familiar with automotive engines, so if I am incorrect please post and let me know.

By laws of averages, the car motors last longer. 50-60K mi on a car is nothing, but on a bike it's a big deal.
