I'm hoping to do the same and change out of my Virago 250 very soon. I really like the V-Star 650 Classic or Silverado. But I have to sell my 250 before I can get another one.

I really like the Vstar. My only concern was that the wheels on a Vstar are spoked. Due to my unfortunatly incident with my Rebel I would never go back to spoked wheels again.

I'm planning to take my MSF course with Awesome Cycle.

I prefer to stay on a cruiser. I'm too old to ride a race bike. Plus, my legs are short and I think a cruiser allows my feet to actually touch the ground.

I see a lot of Honda Rebels on Craigslist. I was going to practice with that till I feel comfortable enough to get a bigger one. My plan is mainly to just ride on the local streets, not on highways.
You are never to old for a sports bike

There are different variations of wheels, mine are stock wheels ,but not spoked.
My model is the 2007 Vstar 1300

Take a look at the VStar 950, it looks pretty sharp & gets good reviews.
