Random Race Pix From 2009

I thought it would be neat to sift through some of my pictures from 2009. Most of these pictures will be from the CMRA events (hence me putting them in the racing forum section), although there might be the random track event now and again. I'll do my best to add commentary when I can. I'll add to this thread now and again when I have some time (and if there's popular demand).

Oak Hill, February 2009 - 5-Hour Mini Endurance Race

Jon Broom, riding on the Las Escobas Ninjette 250. Jon crashed at MSRC in September and suffered a serious head injury. His recovery, while lengthy, is progressing well.

479233329 A4of8 XL

Derek "Pappy" Patman pilots the Team Sidewinder Honda RS150R around T8. I was fortunate enough to ride with Sidewinder this season, and we won the mini endurance overall championship, but it wasn't easy. This particular race was cold and wet, and our team went down in T2 early in the day and finished well down in the order. This meant that we had to play catch up the rest of the season.

479223169 sz2rE XL

Clay Shutz on heads into Oak Hill's T8 on his Rheen Racing Ninja. Clay is a nice guy and is quick no matter what he rides.

479228124 UJidq XL

Scott Foster rides the Defending Sarah Honda CR85 mini motard. Defending Sarah won the overall this day by a convincing margin. The conditions were perfect for a motard on this day. This team looked to be a threat to win the championship early on in the season, but didn't make a whole year of it, running only two races.

479223598 dnj6z XL

Team Von Schlechten Lebern (which translates loosely to "The Bad Livers", I think) rides a rented Ninette 250 in the 5-hour mini endurance race. The team rented this bike at the track after their own entry began suffering mechanical issues. They captured a podium on the day. This is Jess Foltz on board, outfitted in his rain gear.

479230776 ZaKhf XL

Corbin Weiland steers his Highlands Kawasaki KX85 mini motard into T8. Corbin is a nice kid, and finds speed everytime he gets on the bike. Mechanicals plagued this team during the season, but they were quick when the bike was working.

479230168 26wDn XL

Moe Agha on a Honda NSR50 in T8. Moe isn't a little guy, and it shows on the dimunitive little Honda.

Eagles Canyon, March 2009 - 6-Hour Big Bike Endurance Race

The Mancuso Powersports entry had a good year, winning the overall endurance championship. At the first big bike endurance race of the season, they survived a slick track (that made for muddy conditions that afford zero run-off), and took home second place on the day. This is (No color? Yeah, I know. I played around with some B&W shots for a little while at the start of the day.)

492441987 CgeKr XL

Derek Wagnon backs it into T1 on the Moto-Ace Racing GSXR. Defending the #1 plate is often difficult, and Moto-Ace Racing had a tough season, finishing 9th overall this season.

492458125 X6xGA XL

Aaron Gore looks for a dry line on the Sonic Springs Racing Suzuki SV650.

492452354 hH5Av XL

This is one of the Keene brothers on the Kemo Racing ZX-6.

492454715 7D7Kp XL

Gabe McClendon on the Lone Star Track Days "Junkyard Special" ZX-6. If I remember rightly, this bike was a salvaged street bike just a few days or so prior to this event. LSTD finished 4th on the day.

492455035 V4H3K XL

Dewayne Davis pilots the Apex Racing R6 through T1. Note the muddy mess and standing water on the inside of the corner. It was also that way on the outside of the corner…and everywhere else.

492460171 iN6cf XL

STII rode a Yamaha R6 to a second place (in class) finish at ECR. Kenny Smith pilots here.

492469685 dXCH8 XL

Rob Bradlaw streaks down the front straight on the Faltless Racing SV650. Faltless, the multi-time F2E class champions, finished second in class to Hellcat Racing this season my a mere 6 points.

492489894 mitcN XL

Cory Burleson is piloting the Moto-Ace out of T10 entry in this picture. Note the rocky and muddy conditions where run-off would be if it were dry.

492497851 bTGdn XL

The endurance pits at ECR sometime during the race. The weather was gray all day and most of the weekend.

Liz you remember right. We got that bike on Tuesday and had it at the track Friday morning. It was all stock except for the race upper and lower, clip-ons and 1 rearset so we could run our shifter.
Do you have any pics of the mud pit that kept catching racers at the later part of the race?

Gabe

I have to laugh!!!
That bike was a hooptie!!!
The worst part was the CMRA tech inspection.
I was not happy with that one. :-)
Good laughs, nobody wanted the 2009 "A" bike anywhere near that messy track.

I went out at the end of the race with Walter and some others and salvaged a few bikes from the mud. Big props to a few of the corner workers that didn't mind doing the seriously dirty work where they had to use a t-bar and pick up bikes and walk them out of the mud 'cause they were stuck solid. I forget how many, but T5 (I think) had about 4 sitting there (some were standing on thier own, actually), and there were a few more in other corners. I ended up riding Desert Rats' broken down GSXR (mostly because it was clean, having been hand-parked when Steve blew it up). As for pix, unfortunately, I had some pix on my phone (I left my good camera back in the pits), and I don't know what became of those. I might have them at home on the computer, perhaps. I'll look.

I don't remember teching that bike, so it might have been Dave or Steve. You know me, I'm easy, although, knowing Gabe, I might have sent him back until he used more safety wire and duct tape. I do remember the rear "number plate" being fabricated on the spot.

Random track day pix of some CMRA racers. GSS, March 2009:

The ever humble Alonzo Contreras. Alonzo won a couple of CMRA class championships this season. Could not have happened to a nicer guy.

484081735 iwzkn XL

Dean Dufrene picks it up out of a corner. Dean had a typical first year of racing this season - lots of learning the ropes and, unfortunately, suffering some injuries that kept him out of a race or two. Dean did all the right things in my book this season, asked a lot of questions, rode big bike endurance, did some time in the mini endurance, did a few big bike sprints, and competed in some TMGP races as well. Here's to hoping Dean has a really good sophomore year.

484390109 25f6n XL

Wayne Traylor on his Yamaha 450. Wayne had a spectacular crash at ECR a couple weeks after the picture was taken, banging himself up pretty good.

484679189 qCe8R XL

Greg Phillips decided to have a go at racing this season, doing an event at MSRC. I'm pretty sure he wants more for 2010.

484404532 L7Kov XL

Guillermo Gonzales and his pristine Aprilia RSV1000. His bike always immaculate.

484418445 Mxr3y XL

Any Burt gives me the evil eye at GSS. Andy wadded his bike at TWS (Texas World Speedway) in March in T1, and then showed up at TWS (Texas World Speedway) in October to run very respectably near the front of the novice pack.
