Careful When Lubing Chain *GRAPHIC*

taken from my forum

"I will start off by saying that I am a worthless squid rookie and I suck at everything in life.
I was about to go for a ride today and my chain was pretty nasty, so I put it up on the stands and got out the wd-40 and a rag. I started the bike, put it in gear and let it idle. I sprayed the chain down really well and I put the rag up to it and it got caught and took my hand with it through the rear sprocket. I had to have everything above my last joint amputated on my index, pointer and my ring finger on my right hand. Thankfully I am left handed. It was a stupid mistake on my part and now I will forever pay the price for it. Say what you will, flame away, I don't care. I have accepted it and I take full responsibility. I made a choice (not knowing any better) and I will live with the consequences for the rest of my life. I thought I would post this so that 1.) no one else ever makes this mistake and 2.) To show that you don't have to be riding for a bike to get you hurt."

Cool invention.

As far as the guy loosing his fingers. Seems to be an all too common occurrence.

Not so stupid if you accidentally catch your hand in that thing. Accidents happen.

What I thought was dumb is the wiener example. Who is gonna put their junk on the saw?

He only barely brushed the tip of his finger against the blade. Now if he woulda dropped trou and stuck something a little more delicate into the blade, I would have been impressed.

exactly. if you make an invention that is supposed to save you from harm when you slide your finger into a table saw blade then slide your finger into a table saw blade dont give it the bird until it hides from you.

Having been a carpenter, and having one of my coworkers loose 2 & 1/2 fingers on a table saw I think this is a cool idea.

However, as a carpenter I always took off the saftey devices because they caused to many issues or were to much trouble, or the saftey device itself was unsafe.

I would see employers not using this device because of the potential of ruined saw blades when an accident wasn't really about to happen.

Those big carbide blades are not cheap

i want them to come up with a skill saw that somehow keeps me from cutting through my thigh and still completes the cut i was doing.
