How many miles are to much??

Im looking to purchase a used truck and been looking on craigslist and found a few good deals, only thing is I came across a few that had a bit of miles on them... Like an 2001 chevy with 138k miles... I know its a 2001 but this would be the 4th vehicle I ever bought and never got anything with over 100k miles... I also found a 2006 chevy 2500 with 110k miles (not sure if its diesal or gas just yet) but thats a lot of miles for a 3 1/2 to 4 year old truck.... Just wanted to get opinions to see what you guys think

id go with the 3/4 ton. if they didnt do anything but drive around in it not pulling a load or using as a work truck it should be fine. gotta think those things are made to carry and deal with heavy weight. if it isnt doing that just basic driving should last forever

If it's high mileage in a short number of years, then it's highway miles, which means nothing. So long as the truck is well-maintained, mileage over 100k is not a problem. Make sure the timing belt was changed, though, at around 100k.

Other factors to consider are reliability stats on different makes/models.

As long as they are maintained the lsx type motors (found in both of those trucks) will easily make 200k.

My buddy just got a T/a with a 150k on the clock. We put a big cam & all the mods. Made 420+ to the wheels, and its still kickin..

Ha my pops 2001 ford F350 has over 550K right now(well its a deisel)...no rebuilds at all...hes had some minor problems but nothing drastic...

I would make sure there is not a fifth wheel hitch in the back bed or anything that looks like it was used for towing..

The gent who delivered a bike for me recently from TN was sporting an '06 Chevy 3500 diesel with 360K miles. He said it gets regular maintenance and has had very minor repairs.

If the truck has regular PM, then I would have no issue with a newer vehicle with lot of miles.

Bring it by the shop for a free inspection, everybody can quote a truck with over 100k miles they know someone with in the end every make and model will be covered. You need to focus on the one your buying and getting it inspected.

just luck of the draw. There are vehicles that turned 200-300k miles some, will only mid 100's and gives trouble. Depends on the previous owners maintenance work and your luck.

I have an 02 Dodge Ram with 92K miles and the valves fell down destroyed the heads and I need the whole engine rebuild because the piston is toasted, too.

i'm sorry but dodge motors suck. My wife's truck blew a head gasket at 37k miles. I will never own a a dodge again.
