I Call Dibs!

So just from a thread posted earlier, got an idea for a forum update on the For Sale section. Adding the option of selling to "First with cash in hand" vs "First to call dibs" would be cool. Not a very important issue, i know, but the Forum Update and Feedback section is here, so just thought i'd throw it out there.

As a potential seller, I find it unnecessary when the seller can specifically state him/her self as a preference rather than a requirement. So when you say 'option,' you mean 'requirement' like make/model/etc?
It's already an option.

it's not like the "dibs" thing works anyway. I was talking to a guy about a helmet and he said he still had it. Told him i wanted it. didn't hear anything for a couple days till i asked him about it. He said he sold it.

Sure it's an open option for anyone, given the possibility that they actually think about it AND post it on their thread.
I just meant like as in "TEXT" or "PM". Maybe just add a little check box with the options that you can select.

Apparently everyone else here thinks that's ok.

Sorry, I should have posted in my original thread that this was not an important issue (Oh wait, I did). A suggestion that really doesn't affect me is far from being needy, just a possible thought on how to improve the site a bit. There was a thread posted earlier where there was some dispute over a for sale item that a person called dibs on, while the other already had cash in hand. Buncha name calling and fits got thrown around. I was just making a suggestion in the "Forum Updates & Feedback" section. Thought this is what it was here for. Comfy, that was very creative and I'm sure it brought you a bit of self satisfying pleasure, but it was not what I was aiming for.... courtesy was.

Apparently it's not an issue. Carry on friends.

For future reference if I am selling something and you call "dibs" then a guy shows up with money...

Guess who gets to buy it. Go on guess...

That's interesting, everyone on the other thread was praising the seller's "courtesy" for waiting on a person who called "dibs", regardless if the new potential buyer already had cash in hand.

Guess ya just can't please everyone....

I can't buy groceries with "dibs", can't pay my rent with "dibs".
Cash on the other hand works very well.

So the groceries you buy are posted on a forum somewhere? Is there a single apple, gallon of milk or pot roast that multiple potential buyers are looking at?

Every month your apartment is rented out to the first person that brings cash?

I don't get it?

It is to the sellers discretion. FYI there is a feedback option....

No but if you call the grocery store and promise to buy all their groceries, then I show up with the neccesary cash, do you think they will wait to see if you show up at some later time?
I think not, they will take the money now and say they are sorry to you, IF you show up.

I am also not a grocery store, I don't stock items and sale them, I just posted a few items I had for sale, someone sent me a PM stating they were out of town and wanted to buy the item and asked if I'd hold it til they got back this week, I said sure.

I don't think we need a option in the for sale ads for it. I don't think I even need to specify if that's the case in my ads either. It's how I do things, you don't like it, tough . But no need to get off at me because of it.

Dude, I was talking to Helios. I aint at anybody, I was just explaining my opinion that I won't take dibs.
I will not hold for sale items if somebody shows up with cash in hand. Too many times I said I would hold and then the other person never came through.
I am not suggesting that the other way of doing things is wrong. If a seller wants to hold an item for someone, fine. That's a very nice thing to do, but as the seller I wouldn't make that promise.
That's all I'm sayin.

Comfy, I totally agreee, although this was never in question.
How the seller can relay his preference to the potential buyers is kinda what i was getting at.

In any case, sorry to let it drag on. Mod has already posted that this option is not worthwhile.

im gonna start posting up in the FS sections, calling dibs on everything...

...and then selling the dibs to the highest bidders. (or rather the first ones that show up with cash in hand)
