My A* textile with the liner plus a long sleeve shirt, and I'm good to about 55. 50-55 I'll throw on some gauntlets. Below 50, I'll bust out the balaclava and maybe a thin hoody or sweater over my long sleeve shirt.

45-55 I wear a thin rain jacket under my normal jacket with longsleeve shirts.
The rain jacket stops the wind and creates a warm/trapped air pocket between it and my shirt.

The First Gear says it has 3 layers. That could be good or bad... The liner is full sleeve and it has a hidden under-helmet rain hood. I'm not too crazy about the colors, but that's just personal preference. Also says this jacket is a waist-length version of the Rainier. Not a bad choice for all the features it comes with and also has lots of good reviews.

The Teknic looks better IMO, but looks like the silver and black is out of stock. This one only has a vest liner. It says the armor is the hard plastic kind so it might be less comfy, especially if you're bundled up underneath. Looks more aggressive but not so much in the red/yellow/camo colors.

IMO, i'd go with the First Gear. Even though it's called a "Teton". LOL...

i have gone out in my a* mesh sniper jacket in 30*. i commute daily in it, rain or shine, and ice a couple of times. it is actually pretty decent. it could be warmer, but its a summer jacket. i like it, but i also like that tehnic jacket you posted. the price is very right.

back to "get gear w/ reflective piping" esp for cold winter gear as you'll be in the dark longer cuz of the shorter days.

don't have any part. recommendations have had the same winter jacket for 9 yrs. dainese w/ a removable liner, though i never really take it out anymore.

i've got that teknic jacket in the camo...

it was downright hot in the summer. that "breathable" waterproof layer does not breathe. i haven't worn it in the cooler days, still just wearing my leather jacket, but it seems like it should be pretty warm. certainly has enough layers in there.

the hard armor on the jacket hasn't caused me any discomfort so far. also, the camo doesn't quite look like it does in the pictures when you see it in person. it just looks black(ish).

I got this Frank Thomas on sale at Cyclegear for right at $125-$135

This is by far the best jacket ive ever had for cold weather riding. Goretex layer, fleece layer, etc.

On a hot day i will take out the layers and open up the vents...Or wear my mesh jacket.

http://www.frank-thomas.co.uk/cgi-bi...Sport%20Jacket

I would check it out because this thing really impressed me.

i normally wear a 40, but got a 42 in the teknic. it seems to catch a lot of wind (like any other textile jacket i've worn), but at a single size bigger it's plenty big enough to wear a big sweatshirt underneath.
