My TV costs nearly 800/dollars a year to operate, and will literally heat up the room it's in by nearly 2 degrees. you can feel the heat coming off the panel from 3ft away.
SAMSUNG FTW.
If we assume that your TV runs for 10 hours every day of the year (ridiculous), and a decent energy rate ($0.10/kWHr), that would mean that your TV draws ~2,190W/hr. I am going to have to call BS on this. And don't get me to calculating what thermal input is required to raise the T of the room by 2°F.

I have a power hungry Plasma as well, and it is quite energy in-efficient at 820W/hr (assuming worst case scenario on the pics).

ur right, my math was screwy, it's actually closer to 420/yr. and i'm gettin raped right now with 15.6 cents/kw hr due to a 24 month variable price contract my wife signed us up on last year that, at the time, was the cheapest around at 9.7 cents. i'm probably going to cancel it and pay the fees to go with a fixed rate by another company, during the summer we were paying nearly 450 dollar electric bills. but the TV literally will raise the temp of the room signifigantly, when the doors are closed. thermostat is in another room, set to 74, in the tv room it will be 76-77 with the doors closed and the tv on. tv off, doors open, 73-74.

Article on LED tv's. Probably quickly becoming common knowledge, but still a quick and interesting read.

http://gadgetwise.blogs.nytimes.com/...ats-an-led-tv/

When a product has become commoditized and its price is regularly dropping and its profit margins are getting ever-thinner, how can a company boost its sales and raise its prices?

One way is by changing the product’s name.

That’s what Samsung has done with its new line of LCD TVs using LEDs to illuminate the screen. In its print advertising and on its Web site, Samsung calls the new range simply “LED TVs.”

They are not LED TVs. Calling them such makes as much sense as calling its existing line of LCD televisions Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp TVs, or CCFL TVs, after the lighting technology that they use
.

.... more in the article.

I have a 46" Sony XBR4 LCD tv.

Yes, they do put out some heat... and yes, your room does get warmer when it is on for an extended amount of time.

(Someone one here mentioned that it's also because of your own or other's body heat, but um... wouldn't that be in every room you were in, everywhere you went with others in it?)

"Whew... this room was nice and cool until we all walked in here. "

What kind of TV?
Where did you buy it?
Cost?

I think you will get more return-of-cost/value out of the TV than wheels anyday, especially now how its that time of year where it rains every other day.

Ended up saving a few bucks and getting an LCD rather than LED...can't justify $600 more for the same size and pretty much same specs, just a couple inches deeper and a few pounds heavier. i can't wall mount it right now anyways. picked up the Samsung 52" Touch of Color TV from Fry's the day after Thanksgiving...great deal. Model # LN52B630. $994+ tax

What benefits did you notice out of the LED vs the LCD? Are the tvs comparable in Hz and contrast ratio to begin with?
