Do You Remember Doug Henry?

Do you remember him? I do.

Doug Henry is a former AMA national champion motocrosser. He won the 125 East Supercross championship and 125 National Championship in 1993 on a Honda. In 1995 he broke his back badly in a crazy looking crash at Budd's Creek (look it up on YouTube). He recovered and made a comeback.

In 1998, Henry made history when he won the 250cc National Championship on a prototype Yamaha YZ400F 4-stroke, the first motocrosser to win an AMA national championship in more than 30 years. His dominance on that 4-stroke bike signified the beginning of the end for the 2-strokes in motocross.

He semo-retired in 1999, and played around in snocross for a few years. When he showed up to race AMA nationals, he was always a threat.

In the early 2000s, he took up Supermoto, and in 2005 he won a gold medal in the X-Games Supermoto race. In 2006 he won the bronze in the same event.

In early 2007, Doug suffered a crash in a Supermoto crash, and was paralyzed from the waist down.

But Doug doesn't stay down for long. Here's what he's up today:

Here's Doug back in the day:

He is in one of the latest yamaha motocross commercials, setting up a bike for his son (I think).

That jump at buds creek was wicked!

I think you may mean David Bailey, who is an equally inspiring person, and went on to do some Ironman competitions, becomming world champion in 2000. In the commercial his son is on a practice track and David is filling the bike with (Amsoil) oil, I believe.

You just can't keep a good man down.

I remember hearing that 4 stroke at the Astrodome thinking what a wicked sound it made. Now I go to Reliant longing to hear 2 strokes again.

Henry.............Legend

Ricky James a young man who broke his back at Lake Whitney was one of the first riders to ride paralized. Henry is the first person I have seen with a full cage.
