Health Insurance and Trackdays/Races

Has anyone ever had an injury be denied due to the fact that you wrecked at the track? I had a get-off back in June of 08 that required surgery and months and months of physical therapy. I got a letter in the mail today that stated that my insurance provider denied my claim for surgery, and that it is in some type of appeals process. Anyone ever had an issue like this?

that sucks...

Never had it happen but I wounder if you say it was a riding class, instead of a "track day/race" if it would change the out come. Is that a question as to why you were denied?

I don't really know all the details yet. I just recieved the letter in the mail today. I have never known of a exclusion in my health insurance policy for motorcycle racing. However several weeks ago when I renewed my life insurance policy there was an exclusion for motorcycle racing but since I have had my policy for over 5 years there was a rider for it..... I am going to go through my policy tomorrow before I call in to my insurance. If I have any questions I will surely give you call. Thanks.

yes, I have heard that they can deny your claim if it pertains to racing or extreme sport/activities.

Wouldn't that have to be written into our policy? They have never denied Bubby for his track accidents and he has had more than me.

My Insurance intially denied my claim after my get off on v day this year...I needed to have surgery to put my collar bone back together...my mom helped me appeal it and it worked my payments are a little more then initially expected but they still paid for majority of the bill

My surgery was 06.26.2008! Why on earth would it take so long for it to be denied? All I remember getting was a letter that asked if my injury was due to a motor vehicle accident. I sent back the form that stated it was. Could it be because UHC might the that my bike insurance should cover some of the medical cost? I don't know and I guess I shouldn't stress out about it until I talk to the insurance company tomorrow!

I know several folks who have been dropped by their HCP due to injuries on the race track. It's best if you carry a separate policy for yourself while participating in these activities.

i was denied insurance just simply because i rode a bike. my company had to use another carrier because i was the only one of the group denied. But the agent told me up front about it. seems that would have been told to you if there was an exclusion for racing/riding....hope you get it worked out candie.

We are on the same plan and have never had any trouble before. i don't think the initial denial has anything to do with it being bike/track related but we will find out.
