I think Mythbusters proved they can read at any speed. At least up to the 180ish or whatever they tested.

Ah.. Maybe the Mythbusters test was for speed cameras and not toll cameras? I don't remember.

i had heard that the shutter speed was 1/1000th of a second... That will make almost any plate legible.

at 200 mph, you will travel .3 feet in 1/1000th of a second. I don't think 4 inches at the angle that the cameras shoot is enough to make it not legible

Last I heard the ones in H-Town are only good to about 100mph. Considering that most late model cars are limited to 100mph, I don't think they worry about the rest.

no, 200 mph is 293 fps... divide that by 1000 to get feet per thousandth.

200mph/60 = miles per minute (3.3333333)

3.3333333/60 = miles per second (.05555555)

.05555555 x 5280 = feet per second (293.3 fps)

293.3 fps / 1000 = feet per thousandth (.2933)

.2933 feet x 12 = inches per thousandth (3.5)

the cameras don't shoot 1/1000th? even a $99 walmart digital camera can do that.

good SLR's can do upwards of 1/6000th

Ticketed for doing 210 mph on the toll road? Not quite.
July 16th, 2009, 4:33 pm ∑ 43 Comments ∑ posted by Andrew Galvin
Did a San Marcos man get caught speeding at 210 mph in his Bugatti Veyron on the 73 toll road in Aliso Viejo?

The question was raised earlier this week by Jalopnik.com, a site for car lovers, after this image of a speeding ticket was reportedly posted on the Web by someone named Philip Robert Odegard.

The partially obscured image purports to show that Odegard, 22, a self-described technology evangelist and entrepreneur, was caught driving a $1.4 million Bugatti at “210+” mph in the early hours of July 1.

But a call to the California Highway Patrol reveals the image is a fake.

In fact, Odegard was ticketed on April 1 for traveling 100 mph at the same location on the toll road, according to CHP officer Chris Goodwin.

Odegard was driving a 2004 Infiniti, not a 2008 Bugatti, Goodwin said.

Odegard couldn’t be reached for comment.

Seriously? Where in the did you get THAT idea?

There are some GM products which are limited to 112 or 118, but thats simply because they are the base models with low speed rated tires.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but virtually ALL late model cars will very easily break 100, and most will do 125-150 without breaking a sweat.

I can't wheelie, that's why. If I ever broke the law I'd just reach back and cover my plate.
