Some of us ride 87 between Milam and Burkeville, it's a pretty good road. 1414is also decent if you're not pushing it, it can have gravel in it so be careful. There are cabins for rent all around Sam Rayburn (Twin Dikes Marina has them) and Toledo Bend, this time of the year you shouldn't have to worry about them being booked. If you need to know the names of any places or roads let me know, I'm from Newton and live in Nacogdoches, so I know the area well.

^^ what he said. Beat me to it Kane. 87 is a GREAT road if you are that far East. If you are more towards Nacogdoches area look at FM 225 near Lake Nacogdoches and 343, both go west out of Nacogdoches. We usually ride 225 up to Cushing, but if you can also ride farther west in around Rusk & Alto.

There are also some good roads near Marshall in the Caddo Lake area, some neat cabins and good food on the river.

never even heard of it.

what is it? just a few good roads with trees out near nacogdoches that also has some homey places to stay?

if so, hows it compare to the three sisters-(hill county). like better/worse. I imagine the scenery is different....

There are decent roads that usually have very little traffic and it's also a change of scenery from the slabs around Houston. The bad thing is that most of the good roads are spread out, you can't just go from one to another.

I've never rode the sisters but I don't think they really compare, I would say the sisters are probably better roads from what I've heard about them.

If anyone's ever in teh area let me know, I'm always down for a ride.

07 cbr: yea, i thought it might be a little off to compare it to the sisters. but either way...they are both away from houston and would take more then a day.

So basically, i gathered right? Just a few roads in nacogdoches that are a little separated tho? and there is cabins and other ideas for sleeping places besides the typical hotel stuff?

i know nothing of this topic but was slightly intrigued...so im just trying to get the scoop?!?!

Edit: missed ur response... but thanks nactx...that helps

lol you got it. 07CBR and myself are locals and we have to make do with what's in the area! Lack of twisties is why we've made two trips to northern AR and got into track riding. There are cabins/campgrounds in and around the lake area off 87 if someone is interested in making a weekend camping/riding trip

hmmmm I am thinking Arkansas is on my short list; that and the Dragon next spring.

I'll be just N and East of there in January; may have to see if my buddy is up for a day trip around the lake.

Upon further review, looks like I can put together a 200 mile loop from his place in Coushatta down around the lake and back up. Now to see if he is up for it on his Harley....

The highlighted portion of 87 in my map is the best section for sport bikes, which is why we usually just session on that stretch of the road, but it's perfect for cruisers. I rode my uncle's GS1200 on a 200 mile round trip thru there about a month ago. Went from Nac out hwy 21, thru San Augustine and Milam to 87, turned off before Newton and went thru Weirgate, then into Jasper to say high to the grandparents, then on to Zavalla, in to Lufkin for dinner at Logan's and back to Nac Pretty ride, but more cruiser friendly than sport bike.

No worries.... I cruise with the best of them..

I am headed up to his place in the woods of La for a few days of R&R.. guns, bikes and grillin'. Figure I can roll down thru there to check it out if he wants.

Have you tried any roads east of Toledo Bend?

Here's a website that I found a while back that shows some of the decent roads and explains what type of road they are. It has the state broken up into the different regions:

http://www.motorcycleroads.us/regions/tx_east.html

The colors on the map are:
Green-scenic
Blue-sweeing
Red-twisties

If I can remember I'll let you know! Gonna be lots of brass flying; he is also getting set up for some coyote hunting on his buddies 35000 acres...

We always have a good time!

Here is a small sample from one of the trips.... about 1/4 of what I had

I can't say I have either, at least on a bike. I've been in a work truck and been down some decent roads but have no idea what the road numbers were. The problem with Louisiana is the speed limit, and with TX plates if you get pulled over you're screwed.

It will most likely be on a weekday, and radar detector will be on.. not that I speed or anything....

I have traveled some of the roads over by Many and they have potential.
