Learn me on SHNF

Me and a buddy are going to take our KLR's to SHNF the 3 days before Thanksgiving to do lots of riding and a little camping but neither of us have ever been. I've heard that certain parts are sandy and sand isn't much fun on that huge ugly beast.

Where should we ride? Camp? Are there any stores nearby to stock up on beer and firewood? Are campfires legal? Where do we get the OHV stickers?

PM Danny DBuck, he goes regularly. From what I remember there are certain zones to camp and then there are other where the trails start, you'll have to commute between those two.
There are also several trails in there. Let us know and we might join you.

Don't you live close to Timbergrove? If so we need to meet up sometime.

OK, so is there no primitive camping just off the trails? I read on SHNF's site about the camping areas and I guess that wouldn't be too bad cause we could shower.

ya, just North of it in Lazybrook. I usually make the drive there and back in the day. I think it is almost exactly 45 minutes from my driveway to the closest trailhead. My truck usually has plenty of room for other bikes and their riders.

You can camp and ride out of Kellys pond, as long as theres no burn ban campfires are ok, there is no shower.
And you better get over your sand phobia, this is the piney woods.

indeed.

I just would prefer to be kickstarting the bike before their doors open. If you want me to add a sticker for you danny I will. I am waiting for them to call me back to ask for my credit card info.

In fact, I guess I could pick up 3.

I might be interested in joining you guys on the drz. I've just ridden some trails out there starting at stubblefield. Are you the same drumboy as on twtex.com?

I don't think I will need any more info than what I sent in to them. I can always say it is for a few of my other bikes.

when they call me up I will pick up 2 for you, and 1 for danny.
