You may have to ask a layer.

In Texas fleeing/evading arrest in a vehicle is a state jail felony.
Conviction in a court of law logically does not change you from a non felon to a felon, but since when is law logical. IMA(rrogant)O you should change when you commit the crime and the court only validates the assesment.

It is obvious from the video that the deceased had blatant disregard for the safety of himself, the officers and the general public. Look up authorization to use deadly force and it becomes clear that it was authorized in this instance.

Anytime you have an incident there is allways second guessing. Sure there might have been alternate routes of detention, but we were not there and don't know what that officer was thinking.

He is "charged" with committing a felony.
He is NOT a FELON until convicted of said charge.
And I know what the officer was thinkin...he was thinkin "Im busta cap in this fools when I catch him."

And I edited my post about the car.
After reading all the posts regarding how people would mess up thieves of just motorcycles I would believe it would end up c. Or else people are just spouting their wishes and not their true opinions.

Okay. He is not a felon.

He still was justifiably stopped.

just watched the video again...

the cop at 3:40 runs in front of the car. the car surges forward and cop, with catlike reflexes, ends up on the hood.

it looked to me like Wayne was trying to run over the cop that eventually killed him.

New poll:
The cop is
1. a ninja
2. a viking
3. a cowboy

my vote is for a ninja, cuz ninjas > all.

Ohh pardon me... for a guesstimate and not paying attention to the 'DATE Stamp'. Over 2 years ago... same gist, OLD video.

Pay attention to the start of the chase.. the officer reports that the car tried to ram him. It's gone from merely a 'chase' to assault on a PO...

Personaly... it looked more like the guy was trynig to go around the cop <shrug>

I remember seeing this on true tv or something a while back, the guy tried to ram the cop while he was out of the car. had the wheel all the way to the left. only way to go was to hop onto the hood and thats when the cop had enough.

Yes, quite interesting. The lessons learned could explain the officer's reasoning for climbing on the hood. "Obtuse angles F up trajectories. I know; I will position myself so the bullet will be perpindicular to the perp!"

edit; nevermind two people posted the hop on roof to escape ramming theory. I will go with that since seeing it on TV would give a better view.

0 need to empty a clip into his body or face

drop a tire busting strip
or use the spin out method and trap em with 5 cops

biting my tongue since theres no point in typing what i actually think of the kind of person who thinks shooting the dude solves a crime

Ah, the luxury of hindsight...

You may have missed the part where they tried hitting him and stopping him a couple times, but still kept trying to run anway, even when there was a cop on foot standing in front of him. He deserves what he got. Self defense, protection of other officers, protection of citizens, and protection of potential property damage due this idiot continuing to try and run.

And IMO, spike strips are stupid. Have you ever seen a spike strip be put out and the guys stop running after he's on rims? No. They usually keep going, with much less control, and a higher likely hood of spinning out or running off the road hitting someone/something. , sometimes they even wind up getting a tire or 2 off of a cop car too. The only way for that to work is to know which way he's heading (this guy was turning all over the place) and have enough time to set it up before he gets there, and then have enough cops to surround him once he starts losing speed and control to box him and stop him.
