I'm no liberal, but I don't quite think that level of force was called for unless the guy pulled a gun. Emptying your clip into the hood probably would have stopped the car almost as well without having to go all banzai.

Darwinism at it's finest.

If you run nothing good will come of it.

Maybe, but that was not a fifty cal in his hand so the chances of taking down a chevy with a few pistol rounds through the hood was slim. Plus it would take his attention away from the fellon and could have led to worse consequences.

hmmm shoot into a car hood that could possibly stop the criminal from running, but again there is a possibility of it not stopping the car, then the criminal could run further and possibly kill innocent drivers orrrrrrrr end the pursuit with a guaranteed shot to the chest ill go with the second choice

...yes because bullets penetrate sheet metal & solid metal bits better than safety glass.

Was he a felon? I mean, running is committing a felony, but he wouldn't have been a felon, until he was convicted. Was he a felon prior to running? And for WHAT he was a felon for would play an enormous role in the use of force, IMO.

If you listen to the policeman at the beginning of the video he says "somebody just tried to ram me" when the guy was turning around. You knew there was going to be trouble with him....

I gotta say Ed. HOLY MAN. I have seen you post some controversial stuff on MH...for you to believe, in your heart, that that dude deserved to have a clip emptied in his head, for stealing a car and running from the police takes the fkn cake.

Cars make very effective weapons, if anyone didn't know that.

no details about the injuries or what they were. no mention of the suspect being armed. And the car as a weapon...let him go. Throw tacks out. Whatever. He'll get his another way.

He tried to ram the officers and continued to do so after the first car hit him. At some point the officers are in the right to end it in any way to protect themselves and the general public. A car chase reaching speeds over 100 isnt really safe for anyone involved.
