TWS (Texas World Speedway) - Front straight speeds

I had a chance today to capture data from three riders using my GPX-Pro. I thought you might be interested in some of the early data. There is often a lot of discussion about top speed at the end of the straight, so let's start there. Speeds are obtained via GPS.

Ty Howard - ZX-10 - 1:13 pm
Fast lap time: 1:43.28
Top speed with a draft:168.2
Top speed no draft: ~163

Alonzo Contreras - GSXR-600 - 11:59 am
Fast lap time: 1:48.63
Top speed with a draft:147.2 mph
Top speed no draft: ~143

Brandt - GSXR-750 - 4:16 pm
Fast lap time: 1:52.27
Top speed with a draft:148.0
Top speed no draft: ~143

Notice all these guys are picking up about 5 mph with a draft. Pretty wild.

Alonso is 128 mph, Brandt is 124 mph. Alonso brakes pretty late into turn 7.

I was looking back at Ty's data. He actually hit 140.5 mph.

I was on track with Alonzo several times on Friday; I don't brake in turn 7 at all, so I'm sure he doesn't

Cool data Curt, we used to bring a radar gun to check front straight speeds during races, they haven't changed much in the past few years it seems! Ronnie Lundsford was hitting about 163 iirc on his 1000RR...

Scrubbing speed in that corner along with the uphill drive is my favorite part of that track... I love the feeling of the back tire spinning up in to turn 8! Makes me feel like a fast guy, even though because I'm spinning up there I'm sure I'm losing speed.
