Battery

My friend Dave and I rode the forest all day with no problems. When we got back to my house we herd a alarm on my bike!! Sounds like a high pitch squel. We took off the seat, the battery was making a load squel noise. We took the battery out and it was hot as !! The battery all most blew up!! What would cause this, The bike is a 2004 R1 with 12,000 miles. Should I just buy a new battery and forget about it, or should I worry about the electrical system over charging the battery!!

Checked with a voltage meter and it reads 12 to 14V. Swaped with a new battery, we rode to TWS (Texas World Speedway) and 149 seems ok. Im just surprised the battery would do that with only 12,000 miles on it. Thanks for the help.

well he really hates this one!! All most blew up! I was scared to touch it, the sides were poping out and the squel noise was ear pearcing. It took over one hour for the noise to stop, and the battey to cool down!!
