electrical gremlins got me frazzled.

sorry this is long, i havnt slept in a while as i type this, :confused2 :confused2

ok so i basicly like my bike, but it has had some issues (is possesed by a demonic creature from the netherworld) that i would like to finally fix for good (perform a holy exorcism upon) and i guess im just looking for everyones 2 cents. i think i have an idea of the root of the problem know, but want some opinions.

here is some thats gone on with the bike, more or less in order

-bike turned itself on without key :confused1 was like this for a couple weeks, had to disconnect battery to turn it off

-suddenly one day, i had to use the key again (demon began hibernating.)

-weeks later, bike wont start. plug where ignition meets harness had melted :eh: . rebuilt a new plug, but it didnt work too well, so i soldered the wires together. everything was fine...for a while (demon was appeased)

-one day...headlights start going on/off with bumps in road. ultimatly gets worse, and stops working all together. track down problem, found to be worn out high/low beam switch. said screw the switch, just wired brights to be on all the time.

-bout a week later, headlights quit working again...:confused2 :confused2 hi/lo beam wires still look fine. go round and round the harness with a multimeter (as if i actually know how to work one ) problem found to be loose wires in the start switch is causing the headlights to be out this time...re-solder the connection...which i basicly suck at, but got it done.

-at some point after one of the last couple steps, blinkers start acting funny. left side blinks fast, in front and back, but right side blinks slow, front and back (im running out of screwed smilie faces here folks...) but hey, at least the bike starts runs, and the headlights work! :laughing6

-a couple days ago. pulling into parking lot. main fuse blows.:BangHead: i pop in the spare and try to start her up. starts up, but fuse quickly blows again (not too bright am i), so i walk to radio shack and get more fuses (at least im persistant) pop in another fresh one, and it gets me home...where it promptly blows again...an afternoon of fiddling and prodding...results: bike will start and run, but headlight fuse instantly blows instead. since then i have gone through a more main fuses also. seems like everytime i turn on the main switch (ignition) there is a chance the main fuse will blow. :BangHead: :BangHead: :BangHead:

my theory: i need a new bike

my other theory: relay(s) are more fried than bacon at IHOP?

ive been wanting to sell this bike, but i dont feel right selling it with all these gremlins in the harness. i think there is 2 maybe 3 relays on this bike. a main one, one for blinkers, and maybe one more(would have to check the manual again). i priced one on bikebandit for this bike for 30 bucks or so. should i just replace them all and pray:notworthy to the gods?

ok...again sorry for my rambling or whatever, and being weird,...it 2 in the morning and i thikn im starting to halucinate from lack of sleep the last couple days...

Chris,
The old FZR's had a problem with melting the plugs coming out of the key switch under the tank right by the steering neck.
A lot of the times the keyswitch will go bad too. Repair the wiring and check the keyswitch wiring for continuity and if it's going to ground.
You may also have some other issues but it's hard to say without seeing the bike.

BTW, if you have aftermarket headlight bulbs take them out, the bike isn't set up to handle them. the stock bulbs on that bike were 35/35 watt and the bikie could barely handle those without problems.
Hope this helps.
