NO reason to change to a manual tensioner if you are not having problems with the stock one. Manual tensioners are fail proof IF you know how to adjust one properly.....Ofcourse there is 867048493472 opinions on how to adjust them properly. Major consequences if the adjustment is wrong.

Then I'd recommend replacing it with a manual one.

Yeah if its rattling, I would definetly do something quick....either get a new stock one or go manual.....Manuals are fail proof once you figure out how to set them. I have one in my busa, I won't give you an adjustment procedure but I will say don't get it too tight....you will break the chain and thus lunch the motor....

You might contact Carpenter Racing and see if they have any of the modified zx-12 tentioners ready yet. They are an oil pressure tensioner but a better design. He was supposed to make another batch of them.
