The lid with no noise....

or at least closest to it. WHICH ONE??? I have a cheaper helmet, and now I'm releasing WHY. Just wanted to get some opinions on helmets that are quiet and light. Importance in that order. Looking at these, but will take some other suggestions:

Shoei X-Eleven Helmet - Vermeulen 3
imagephp?id78717

Arai Vector- Scream
imagephp?id54403

Shoei RF-1000 Caster TC1
imagephp?id38040

Shark RSR2 Helmet - Absolute Matte

the rf1000 is pretty quiet, just a high speed whistle but that may be because i usually have the face shield vented a little. The x-11 is the tho. . . and you can get a really good deal on em right now as the new x12 has just come out

i have owned a shark rsr2 and it's definitely not quiet. Most race helmets are not quiet from what I understand. I also owned an Arai RX-7 corsair and it was loud too. The corsair was a lot more comfortable than the RSR2 imo. I was initially in love with the RSR2 but the Corsair won me over pretty quick. Only thing I like about the RSR2 over any Arai lid is the face shield. RSR2 has an awesome face shield. Super easy r&r, thick, simple lock with great positive feel.
I have no experience with Shoei as they don't fit my head shape. I do remember not caring for the feel of the padding or the ratcheting face shield when I tried a few on.
Noise. I would eliminate the RSR2 immediately. The arai's face shield uses side pods which disturb air flow creating noise. How much noise I really don't know. The Shoei lids have what look like flush mounting shields so probably less noise there.
any noise reviews on webbikeworld?

My Arai is a very quiet helmet. I wear the Suomy Spec 1R extreme and it's REALLY loud, but the eyeport is so much wider that I prefer it.

i wear the arai profile. it is quiet. light. but vents just ok. maybe thats why its quiet. the suomy and shark seem to be way lighter but do not fit my shape head as mine is long oval. i like the chin spoiler.

SV mike must have a square head if he's saying arai's & Shark's are loud. That or he's just buying the wrong size

When you put the visor down on the higher end Shark's its like closing a car door. My last Shark was hands down the quietest helmet I've ever worn. That's saying something. I'm a parts mgr at at dealership. I change helmets everytime I see something I like or want to try. (I've pretty much worn everything)

each persons head is diff. but helmets aren;t. so people will get diff. results w/ the same helmet

unforn. only cyclegear lets you return lids before 2? weeks? or trying it out.

generally the more airflow, the more noise. the race helmets arais rx7rr4+ and shoei x-11 are generally more noisy but flow more.

earplugs FTW!

also, me, i don't recommend dark/matte helmets. cagers see movement, and dark greys and blacks aren't seen as often as a bright helmet swiviling around.

I did read your review before I even posted this, and that's why I included it. I will try one one to see what they're like.

I might come by Friday to check it out. I work at the big firetruck place around the corner from you on hwy3.

I know, I know. I'm going to try and start making a habit of earplugs. But I want them to compliment the quietness, not supplement the noise! I was thinking the same thing about the matte, but didn't find any other graphics I liked for the model.

I'm not that concerned with airflow, I've gotten quite used to mine, which has none. The Arai Corsairs are way outta my range, that's the only reason I included a Vector.

Anyone else? I know you guys have opinions......

I have 2 X-11 (08 & 09 models) and the RSR2, both of them are loud. As someone stated before, most race helmets are.
If you are a L I have my Duhammel helmet for sale, let me know we can work out something, BTW ear plugs for the win.
