Ducati confirms Hypermotard 796

Looks like they will be making a little brother for the 1100.
Supposed to be priced under $10K also.
Could be a popular model for ducati..

seems like a good idea. 1100 seems like overkill but ive yet to ride one. with there new "low maintenance costs and intervals" this might be a big hit

it's still almost 370 lbs dry weight and, with ducati, that means no fluid AND no battery. I'd sure like to see them figure out how to make this same bike weigh in wet and ready to ride below 350 lbs.

IMO other than KTM and the Aprilia, no one has come out with a REAL motard that's over 500cc.
They may have "motard inspired styling" but at the end of the day the weight kills them.
Good bike though, kind of like todays standard but with new styling.
I'd still spring for the 1100 if I were in the market.

I was lucky enough to ride a friends very modified Hypermotard in the Hill Country, briefly. It was a freaking blast, but I will still take my KTM450SMR, my old DRZ400E, or XR400R as a true motard.

The Hyper was fun, and now that you can get a 6 plus gallon tank for it, I could see riding one fro all around use, but if you want a true motard, stick with a thumper. Yes, even over the Aprilia 450/550 twins. You get off of those and you can't feel your hands from the paint shaker vibrations, not to even mention the 65 mile range. On a track only situation, probably ok, but for street use? No. I also didn't like the fuel injection response on the 450, although it was an early model without the updated mapping.

My $0.02

Definetly not a true motard.

More like a motard inspired hooligan bike.

I bet it'd be fun commuter.

You could pimp it out and drop some of that weight with the $$ you'd save over the 1100 also.

wonder if they will have a demo test ride bike at Northwest honda like they have/had for the 1100 hypermotard...

I wouldn't buy one but i'd really like to ride one.

I love the looks but I rode the 1100 and I didn't care much for it.

Would be fun as a 4th bike, but I'd rather have a real motard. Something you can crash and not immediately burst into tears.

i liked riding the 1100. i think the 796 would also be a blast.

i wouldn't look around for knobbies for it though like i would for all my other dirt-tards.
