and you'd find NONE that are rated as safe as an ody, let alone most minivans. the kia just did really well on the safety test. if i had older kids 8+ i might consider an SUV. but w/ youngins like what you have an i have. those rear doors you/your wife have to open, i push a button and they open/close, and mine has a power rear hatch. so by the time your wife gets to the car w/ groceries and and kids in tow and gets the tailgate and side doors opened up. my wife is already gone cuz everything opened up and the kids clamoured in there.

SUVs are about image (kinda HDish) minivans are about practicality.

my remote powered sliding doors/hatch, vs your manual ones, that the kids can't open on their own till they're about 10 lol

I think the death rate is high for SUV because so many people have them

It's like that statistic about young men dying on sport bikes.

being it's a high % vs high #, it takes into account the #'s of SUVs. they also have a high # of deaths, but cars (cuz theirs more of them) have more #'s of deaths.

w/ bikes more older deaths cuz of sheer #s, but kids die at a higher %.

don't forget my van also has TPMS (tire pressure monitoring system) , #1 cause of SUV rollovers and deaths..........blowouts, why..........low tire pressure.

my van also has run flats......she hits a nail, tire runs low, it tells her, she keeps on rolling to the house. or to a honda dealership. where for the first 2 yrs a new tire is free. now after 2yrs it $190 , but she's safe vs stranded on the side of the road.

on the bright side. most of these heavy veh. when a flat, tears up the sidewall. meaning replace tire anyway.......prolly the $100 range, so it's not THAT bad.

I get 20MPG on the highway. If you read back, you'll notice I cited 13MPG while towing "my 4500# Jeep + trailer + 7 passengers and gear"

I dunno about Houston but in these parts diesel is around $.20 less/gallon than 87 Octane!

Seriously, I have the monster for towing. The other car is a Mazda Tribute.

lol........SUV again, w/ the interior space of my mazda P5 wagon, just worse gas mileage, but hey it's an SUV

i understand the need for an SUV , but i think it's funny how many people dismiss minivans, yet it's alot better application but people don't wanna admit it.

so whens the last time you loaded teh jeep/trailer and SUV full of people?

Not in a while but it's nice to know I can on a whim. Even if I DIDN'T have a load of people, I still wouldn't be able to tow the Jeep with a minivan.

No sense in trying to convince me to like the minivan - justify one all you want. I'll never buy one.

I vote for the Honda Element! Often dismissed as too ugly by the mini van crowd.. go figure. Even though the mini van is overkill for most of their needs. *shrugs*
