I ride in the mornings that is under 30% chance of rain Tue - Thur (Mon & Fri I need the truck to hall my gear to and fro the house)

But if the bike ride stresses you this much don't ride cause your mind isnt on the task at hand

It seems to me that there are a lot of folks here siting the cost as the underlying reason they ride to work. Im hearing how much cheaper it is. I have to wonder, is it the enjoyment really or just thats its cheaper? Who really wants to ride in the weather?

Also the HOV lane rocks.

I started for the cost issue. The enjoyment was serendipitous. If I was rich I would have a Goldwing for crappy weather and a liter bike for the good and still ride every day to work.

I commute when I feel like, it beats the out of just looking at the bike sit there and waiting for the weekend & perfect weather. Sometimes it's hot, and sometimes I get wet. No big deal.....I've been both before.

I commute on the bike because I love riding. Any cost savings on fuel is quickly eaten up in tires that don't last like car tires, chains, and all that exp power ranger looking gear that doesn't last as long as you'd think it would when riding daily. I mean ya gotta have gear for the rain, gear for when it's hot, and gear for when it's cold.

Car or bike... when the traffic is crawling at 5-10mph it sucks... when it's moving it's alright.

It's kind of pathetic, when on a 35 mile commute with posted speeds of 65... your average actual speed is slower than the distance you have to travel.

I used to commute about 40 miles each way and I figured that if there was a lane open for motorcycles, I could have gotten to work faster on my 50cc scooter than in my truck and gotten 100mpg while I was at it.

In all honesty, I am almost with the OP on commuting... Yesterday and today I went to school in the bike, no more than 15 mins of 45mph max.

I do find the car alot easier to drive to/from school. I mean seriously, 2 pedals and 1 hand to steer? I hope I pick up the "i love to ride the bike always" bug soon.
