New colors! Joe Prussiano, myself and Rick Guy finished up the endurance season in John Tauzin's memory. In March of 1989 I wound up in South Korea, Rick Guy continued racing, writing, and photography, and Joe Prussiano- well, he went on to live his dreams!
Hope everyone has enjoyed what I've had to share of the good ole' days with CRRC and WERA. Remember, one day today will be your memories! Enjoy!

Ed:

In order according to your posts:

1) I still see James Diester once in a while, or I did. I haven't seen him in about a year or so. I last talked to Rick Guy in the late 1990s at Oak Hill. I last talked to Joe P. about 10 days ago. Yeah, July of 1988 was a rough month.

2) Indeed, no tracks days. Saturday endurance was how you practiced back in the day…when you weren't at Oak Hill.

3) It was a day when 2-piece leathers out-numbered 1-piece leathers, too.

4) Cool picture and it shows the old control tower well here. Demolished in 1989, a new tower was built in 1990, and it exists today. It's pretty rickety itself, though, and not nearly as cool, IMO.

5) The picture of John at the right is a sad one. This is the picture the Inside Line used to report his death at Gateway. I have never seen it in color before, though.

6) Tucking the front coming out of the horseshoe. You probably hit that bump on the inside of the corner. Good news! That bump is still there!

7) RIP to OHR. First picture shows clearly how close the tire wall was to T1's outside. Greg did have an RG500 Gamma back in the day, but I can't confirm 737 as his number. I didn't start racing until a year later, though, so this is before my time by a bit. Assuming 737 is Greg, I see he's a novice, which is about right time-wise.

8) Man, I remember this bike well!

Linz,

I called Joe a few weeks ago. Need to check back with him to see how the Peak went. As for Rick, an email every couple of years, and follow some of his photography online.
Do you remember a Wesley Winchester and his father? Was curious what became of them. If I remember right, he used to work with Doug Polen; he also raced a very nice Honda back in the day.
Ran into Doug a few years ago here in Phoenix, he was instructing at one of the local trackday outfits. I was surprised he remembered me after all these years- his parents had allowed my very pregnant wife to take refuge in their motor home from the summer heat/humidity at TWS (Texas World Speedway) in 1987. My pit mate is a huge Polen fan, so when I told him Doug would be at our next race, he brought a pristine GSX-R poster of Doug from the Suzuki Cup days- Doug kindly signed it. He was surprised to see such an old, well-preserved relic from the past. BTW he was still pretty damned fast!

As for the photo of John, I took that at Road Atlanta in late 87. I also still have the copy of the "Inside Line" with that picture.
Any idea when you might be able to post all of your "Inside Line" collection on the CMRA site? I'd sure love to see it.

Ed

Anybody else here make the trip to Mexico city with us for the FIM race in 87 that was part of the Formula one car race week , I have tons of pics from that whole 2 week trip . We raced in Monterrey and then Mexico city as a build up to the F-1 car race , free everything for 2 weeks, transport, hotel,F-1 tickets......Then only the american race bikes were sabotaged the night before the race , pin holes in the brake lines , master clips removed , oil drain plugs turned almost all the way out .......crazy !

Mike- we didn't make the 1987 run, but did do Monterey in 1988. Not as crazy, but plenty eventful... during the endurance race I lowsided going through the esses, had to jump up and run after the bike as it slid through the infield, fearing spectators lined along the inside of the track would steal it. Our return to the US was met with a 6 hour customs ordeal. John and I swore never to go back!

@ Lindsey,

Thanks for the photos. I remember you with a camera.

I also remember John Pollard. Especially on the first cold morning of every year, as that was when his practice crash occurred IIRC. He taught me a lot as he was so smooth and methodical.

Best,
-Jeb

Jeb Bridgeman. Long, long time, my friend. Very good to see you here. Your ears must have been burning. I was just telling telling stories a couple weeks back at Colin's place with Joe P. and Mike Myers and some other old schoolers and your name came up.

Right about John. That was a practice crash, but it was the last practice on the morning of May 6, 1990. Of course he was a bit of a crashaholic on his own GSX-R, and we saw him fall down many times and get back up.

Bittersweet memories.

Actually, I was searching James Schaeffer's name and this forum popped up.

I missed Joe's run up the Peak until I saw it in the papers. I live 20 miles from the start/finish line. Would've loved to have schooled him on our decomposed granite in the weeks leading up. LOL.

I do remember the late chill on that day in May 1990. Always thought it was cold/other rider related. Couldn't recall if it was spring or fall. Thanks for clearing it up

Best,
-Jeb

We're all going to be back on the mountain next July. I was supposed to go this year when something came up just two days before Joe and I were to leave out. I know we'll see you there in 2012, right?

James is still around as far as I know. It's been a few years since I've seen him. He lives in the San Antonio/Austin area, last I heard. I think it was a picture I posted here that somehow made it back to him or something. If you want, I can put you in contact with him. PM me.

2012? Count me in. And better yet, I'll get Bryan Hanson there. He has since learned a few high altitude tricks since being in Denver 10 yrs.

I got James' number, thanks.

I will PM my number to you at some point.

Best,

Looks like an '86 Limited. A friend of mine had one. First dry clutch I ever became familiar with.
