I'm 99.7% sure never. I am in a different place now and honestly I don't think my knees would allow it any more anyway.

It does seem so sureal now when I look back on it. 16 years is enough I think...

I need to dig out abunch of old pics I have and get them digital. Some would compliment Linz's nicely...

(looking at the ones he has from the early 90's REALLY brought back alot of memories)

Oh yea, the old 350. I still have it. It has a 400 in it now w/ 64 hp to the rear wheel. I'm getting it ready for Vintage racing if the CMRA ever does it again. If not I'm going to just run in Clubman to shake it down.

Nice to see you here, Emmett. I hear ya loud and clear with the knee thing. Retards are fun, but one of the reasons I ride them is my bad knees. The little Ride Smart is pain!

If not riding, at least come out to visit once in a while? Like TWS (Texas World Speedway) this coming weekend?

Gimme a shout if you need help getting your pix scanned.

You do realize that going out to the track just to hang out is like offering a
dry coke addict a little bump for old times sake...

I used to wonder why guys from the past just disapeared never to be seen again and now I understand why.

Very sad about OH. I have sooooo many good memories from there.

Ya'll keep up the good fight. Maybe my son will all of a sudden get interested in bikes other then just farting around in the woods intermitantly and we can go mini racing.

Tootles...

Yep. I validate my still being here by attempting to get my old racer buddies back into "using" so I can feel better about using, too. I'm a hard core pusher/junkie.

At TWS (Texas World Speedway), friend and racing old-schooler Dennie Spears handed off some vintage pix and a couple other things to me. He asked if I would scan these items and post them up. yeah, Dennie! Here's the first batch of stuff. Dennie is probably gonna kill me because I forgot some of the details he told me at TWS (Texas World Speedway), so if I get some of these things wrong, fill in the blanks for me. These pix are a nod to the old school, and things were run differently in the old school. These were taken, I believe, between 1984 and 1986. The track is TWS (Texas World Speedway).

This is, I believe, Dennie on his Yamaha RZ350 heading down pit road. He's looking quite fashionable in his bumble bee leathers. The RZs in these years came in yellow and black and red and white, but all the cool kids had the Kenny Roberts signature yellow and black model. (Little known fact: in the middle 1980s, Yamaha sponsored the "RZ Challenge", a national series for RZ350 racers. Lots of great racers contested the class. Some scrawny kid from Houston, Texas made a name for himself riding like a man on fire in this class. Maybe you know of him? His name was Kevin Schwantz.) Note the grandstands here. Until the Ishin Group gave TWS (Texas World Speedway) a makeover over the 1989-1991 timeframe, the stands had color-coded seats. That was sweet.

Dennie told me who this rider was, but I forgot. Doh! If you know, help me out. He's working on his Yamaha RZ350, and it appears as through he's doing an oil change and he's using some bigazz pliers to open the oil fill. Note that the bike still has the stock exhaust and he is running the very premium (for the time) Metzler ME99 rear tire.

Some pictures are worth a thousand words, but others are worth far more. He's an example of the latter. This is the start of an endurance race at TWS (Texas World Speedway) sometime in 1985. This, my friends, is a CRRC version of a LeMans start. LeMans starts are inheirantly dangerous, so they are basically defunct now (although we did use one for a couple of "fun" races, the infamous fundraiser from 2005 and the equally infamous pit bike fundraiser from 2009). The bikes were lined up at pit out, and the riders were on the opposite side of hot pit road. When the signal came to start the race, riders rushed across pit road to their bikes, jumped on, make the 90 degree corner out onto hot pit road, and sped off towards T1. There was an obvious amount of mayhem since trying to sqeeze forty motorcycles through a relatively small opening is a physical impossibility. I don't know for sure when the LeMans start was eliminated, but by the time I started racing in 1987, it was effectively gone. Note the shirtless and nearly pantless pit crews giving bikes a shove, and note the large crowd of spectators standing on pit wall hoping to get a glimpse of some serious action. Crazy!

Dennie mentioned a couple riders to me in these pix, but I forget who they were. Help if you can. He did tell me that his bike is the #4 bike. It appears to be a Yamaha FJ600, although he seemed to recall it was something different.

They just seem to keep on coming, don't they? Aside from the seriously cool race action on the track, note the killer 1985 style the spectators have. Sweet!

Hey Mike. I've sort of abandoned this thread. Need to get back on it, though. If you have any vintage goodies, please send me a PM. I'm collecting this stuff for the CMRA.

Team Scream, eh? Ever see Brian Graver anymore?

Also, pix of your 490, please. I'd love to see it. I had one myself, and an '83 250 Spider.

I see Brian all the time , he races the TORCS off road series and is a multi time champion in the masters class , I race with him several times a year. Craig is a roadrace instructor at the Harris Hill road course near San Marcos these days. I race vintage MX in the EVO series on this 81 Maico 490 and my 79 Elsinore 250.
