GoPro announced its 1080p HD Hero Wide helmet cam earlier this year, back when people were jumping off of high things and speeding around other things whilst wearing helmets. Now the summer adventure season is drawing to a close, the winter one is starting to develop, and the company has released a series of high-def, high-adrenaline clips to show what that camera can do -- most filmed when the days were still long and the sun still high. Sadly the videos are not embeddable, but click on that read link for your morning dose of speed. The company has also released a good bit of information about the cam, that it's 30fps at the full 1080p or an optional 60fps mode at 720p. 720p footage is recorded at a particularly wide 170 degrees, while 1080p footage is slightly less wide (though still rather broad) 127. Also, the company promises that the microphone will actually be usable at speed, a rarity in this sort of device. It's all slated to ship this fall, and we look forward to putting one through its paces then.
, lets hope so.

Dont get me wrong, the picture is great but still looks like a 4:3 format (which is NOT 1080P) on their samples. I wonder if they are going to do a TRUE 16:9 1080P (1920x1080P) Resolution. Have to read up more and see what I can find.

to tell you the truth, I am not disappointed with the way the wide cam (non-hd) looks on my 56" TV played through the computer. I imagine I would be all that more pleased with this newer model.

from helmetcam central.com

This Fall, they will be releasing the GoPro HD Wide, the world’s first full high definition 1080p helmet camera! Yes, that’s right, 1080p (1920 x 1080 resolution) on a freak’n helmet cam, how awesome is that???

The GoPro HD still has the killer 170 degree wide angle lens and will have three recording resolutions: 1080p (1980 x 1080), 960p (1280×960, so it’s similar to 720p but at 4:3 ratio), and 720p (1280 x 720).

1080P 1980×1080 30 fps @12 Mbps
960P 1280×960, 30 fps @ 10 Mbps
720P 1280×720, 30 fps @ 7.5 Mbps
720P 1280×720, 60 fps @ 15 Mbps

is the capacity for SD cards and compatibility in the GoPro available?

with an 8 gig card, and 12Mbps, that's almost 11.5 minutes of video.

I think with my GoPro wide, I can only use up to a 2 gig card.

hmm...i am just not geting that to add up for me....6 hours that is.

I am calculating about 45 minutes on a 32 gig.

32 gigabytes = 32 768 megabytes
@ 12 mg / sec (1080p) goes to 45.5 minutes.

regardless, I am getting one and a couple 32 gig SD cards.

edits fine in windows movie maker and imovie for me
