Long wear tires for R6?

Discovered steel starting to come through my back tire and decided it's time for a new set. It's got the stock BT021's off the showroom floor and they've lasted about 5500 miles, but I'd like something that lasts a little longer since I mostly commute with the bike.

I didn't come up with much from searching MH, any suggestions?

then the bt021s?

Anything w more of a touring feel will really sacrifice performance. I was sliding all over the place on the track on 21s.

I think I have 6k on mine. The straight line riding is what's killing it. A really hard compound wont protect your rear from slip.

What Cali said, I never get more than 3000 miles out of any tire, U need a sport touring tire, but U will sacrafice performance in corners

If you're just commuting buy cheap take-offs from peeps on here. You can get a good set for $50 or less and if you're choosey with what you buy you can get something that'll last you awhile. Some dealerships and riders will give them to you for free just so that they can be rid of them. I commuted back and forth to Nacodogches for two years and take-offs sure saved me a bunch of money.

I rode with a maxxis on my rear when I had my R6. I commuted daily from Pasadena to Texas City and back, and got just over 10k. My wife has the same tire on her FZ. They handle fine on the street if you give them a few miles to warm up.

if you want a good all around tire its a little more money but has great tread life check out Pilot Powers either the 2ct's which are a little more or the Regular Pilot Power. I have had good luck on my R1 with them and have never had them slip.. The pilot roads are a great compound.. But are as hard a rock and you really have to be cautious just like any sport tire.. It is all relative to your riding style. Me personally I wouldnt sacrifice grip for an extra couple thousand of miles.. Tires and brakes are the most important thing on your motorcycle in my opinion. go with michelins a little bit cheaper than the op and really make a good tire its all preferance but I have had Pilot Powers on 4 different street bikes and never had a problem

I had one on my last 6. It was a decent tire. It stood up to many burn outs and
even help on the strip. It was looking like it was gonna last for a long time. I felt pretty confident in the turns with it too. I had a Skinko Raven on it before that. It came on the bike. It was . The pos would cut loose on a road that wasnt really clean. Stay away from the Shinko

Pilot Road 2cts. It'll give you a long-wearing compound in the center with a sticker compind towards the edge.

I'm a big fan of Bt016's..........6k out of the rear and 8k out of the front on a ZX10, work great at the track too.

bridgestone came up with the 3 compound tire like the pilots but with one extra compound. You will have the hard compound in center for commute but soft on the side for performance if needed. They are much cheaper too! I love my front tire so far. I haven't put a rear on yet. Motorcycles Unlimited carries them. Oh it is the Batlax 16s I believe. The stock bridgestones are different from the off the shelf ones from what I have read.

I wonder what air pressure you're running on the bt021s. I'd just expect more mileage out of that tire.

I ended up going with the Pilot Road 2 CT's based on what you guys suggested. Spent all day researching the tires here at work and called a couple R6 buds who said good stuff too, so that sold me.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys, I picked up a lot of info based on your comments.

FWIW I'm running factory recommended tire pressure front and rear but off the top of my head I don't recall what the numbers are. I check the air once a week when I do my sunday look over and it's never been off more than 1 or 2 psi since I bought the bike, though I did get a nail a few months ago on the rear tire that was patched.

Gix,

thanks for the offer, that's pretty generous. Much appreciated
