Exclamation I ate it: Downtown parking garage roof saftey, crash test v1

I lost it on the top of a parking garage in Downtown Houston this morning. Got there early, and since the weather is nice I thought I would ride up to the top level (had never been to the top before...) and watch the city for a few moments. Ok, did that, turn around give a lil gas to get going start into the turn at low speed (maybe 10mph) and BAM it dumps faster than I can even respond to.

After picking the MC up, I notice that the whole roof is covered in a thick coat of fine powder, I wipe my finger in it and if feels like talcum powder. You can see it is stuck all over my rubber. This junk is slick.

My slacks offered little protection to my right leg/knee (yea, should have had knee guards flame away...)

Helmet saved me from a bump on the head.

Joe Rocket Mesh failed terribly. The elbow guard may have saved me from a broken bone though.

If you look at the rash on the side of my arm you can see a mesh pattern. How my skin squezed through the mesh I don't know.....time to get the Roadcrafter from AeroStitch or some leather.

The Versys has been droped on each side before, and the auto-shut-off worked as usual.

So, iwatch for this hazard when you are on tops of parking garages, especially the ones that are rarly used.

sorry to hear it... but it will happen eventually if you own a bike, at least it wasnt worse than it was. i watched a friend of mine go down wearing a similar mesh jacket at about 60 mph. i bought a leather one after that.

I'd like to see anyone here ride on this junk, especially you tony. I'll hold the video camera. It's like grease. In fact, I bet that is exactly what it is; the particulate from the resturants grills & cook-tops exuast that is vented up. I guess that the grease smoke particals stick together and rain down.

Whatever it is, it's really slick and obviously dosn't wash off after a rain.

I'm curious how the white powdery substance got so far onto the side of the tires. That would indicate a pretty good lean angle. Was that the side you went down on or were you draggin' knee up there?
