Just like Curt said, in a big group you will have all kinds of riders, we do not force people to go fast or put a gun to their heads and make them follow the front group, Its more like ride at your own pace type of ride.

I believe the group has gotten bigger each week because people that came to our rides enjoyed the pace so they keep coming back for more! If our pace was too crazy or uncomfortable i think the group would be getting smaller and smaller instead.
I'm not saying the pace was to blame. I know that one bike made impact with a bike that was stopped. I know there were inexperienced riders on the ride. I know that there was not a riders meeting, even for the new riders. I know that you posted a reply to "along77082" that "Our pace is usually moderate", but everyone can read that. It wasn't a PM to her, so new riders may think that this is the ride for them. S.D.W. admitted it wasn't. I know at least one experienced rider dropped out because they felt some riders were putting others at risk.

What I am saying is that everyone is responsible for their own safety, and since this is a group ride, most riders expect to ride as a group. If it's a large group then it should be split up according to experience level and pace. In a group ride there should be a sweeper, because the group shouldn't leave a downed rider, and unless there is a sweeper that could happen.

No one likes to be left behind and that's the reason most organized rides have a sweeper. If someone thinks that they're going to be left behind and they don't know the route, then they may ride over their heads to try to catch up. That's just natural. Instead of signaling a leader or sweeper that doesn't exist when they have an equipment issue or some other problem and would like to stop to address it, they try to fix it while riding.

If you're riding with your regular crew, then they know you and they know what to expect. When you post rides on an open forum and new riders or strangers show up, there should be a riders meeting with those folks.
This is for your own safety. Someone that's new or out of control can kill you. We don't want to see that happen

Maybe there should be a standard to paces:

1. Slow: no more than 10+ over speed limit
2. Moderate: 25+ over speed limit
3. Fast: over 100 mph
4. Big little brain: over 120 mph
5. Stay pretty die young: over 140 mph
6. Tell your mother you love her: As fast as the laws of physics allow

Now there is no more confusion!
