V twin engines

Does anyone have any good advice on wear and tear of a V twin engine? How many miles can you expect out of these engines "trouble free"? At what point would you be wary if you were looking in to buying a used V twin engine bike?

yeah, gotta be a little more specific, there's nothing about the v-twin engine design that makes any more or any less reliable than any other engine type. but with that said, there are good ones, and there's bad ones. we need more details.

the bigger v-twins like Hondas 1300, Kaw 1500 or 1600, suziki's 1500cc or bigger. Just curious. I'm looking into buying a used cruiser.

you just listed 4 completely different engines. all with different components. all built by different companies, engineered by different engineers, etc. do you really expect them to have the same reliability characteristics as eachother? and then you throw in the used factor? how do you know how each was treated? there are so many variables man, you can't just ask is a used large displacement japanese v-twin engine reliable.

ok, so if you were to buy a new one, is there a particular brand that is better performance wise? Durability wise? Maintenence wise?
