Talking Howdy dudes!!!

so I finally heard about this place on monday at MSR Houston, Longhorn track school. Aint those instructors awesome? well...that Buck Beasleys pretty shady...

SO Im outta Austin, aka Wimberley, I know alotta yall, but haven't a clue who's who on the board.

Im a ctrl rider there at Lonhorn, I have the 04 black zx-10r with the black motogp leathers, 540! Alton Hill's the name.

For those who dont know me, I race with CMRA. I used to ride street, but after crashin and doin really stupid stuff, and some surgery and tickets...etc...I figured it'd be better to roll on the track only.

For those who hadn't tried the track...I highly recommend it! Unless you cant handle another addiction and maxed CC...:

I guess mainly I wanted to thank everyone who takes pics and posts them! particularly ArturoC. Gotta love the high res shots!

Look forward to bein a member here!

Howdy Alton, how long you been racing? Thats a nice bike you got. Eventually I want to get a taste of the track and learn some things out there at LMS. Its a great site here and the people and topics are pretty interesting and funny. Hope to see ya someday at the track

How long have you been riding? How many track days did you go to or what training did you get before starting CMRA?

Welcome aboard,
I've been debating my start at the track but I'd have to give up many other addictions like crack cuz I hear the track can become quite expensive.
Soon enough, I'll be out to see you guys.

Till then, enjoy your stay here on MotoHouston

Well Im not sure of your other addictions...

but if youre anything like me...you'd gladly give the others up!

I mean...

If you dont like racin your buddys, riding fast, sliding tires, wheelies, braking so hard youre trying to keep from flying over hte front end...then the track is definately NOT fer you! :icon_bigg

basically I put my bike on the track in feb of 05. Rode a few track days and then crashed on the street in May, out for 8 weeks or so due to shoulder surgery.

I think I finished about middle of the pack in my first races. then I raced in Oct. for the last race of the season and came away with a 3rd. not bad for my second race of the season.

Then I've been doin track days every chance I get and talking to everyone I can trying to learn all I can.

So its possible if you put your pride aside and dont crash much that you can get a long ways in not much time.

My first crash on the track was at LMS on mar 20th. I've had several close encounters though, but I still blame that crash on a tricky turn and poor tire choice...aka, old bad tires.

Trying to save cash....not a good idea...spend money on tires, not on helmets and bodywork!

honestly I dont know.

I know i've been on a watch at 1;48s...

but then I "heard" that Jerry the owner can do 1:46s...and riding with him I know I turned laps a couple of seconds faster than him.

So maybe someday if I ever get a watch on me maybe Ill know...

Maybe 1:44s...maybe 1:48s wish I could tell ya. :eh:

I am curious about the racing you do. I have been thinking about it but wonder what class I would be in or level or whatever and how many people you are racing against? How long the races last and what are the entry fees and stuff. Inotherwords give me the down low.

Btw I think my time at MSR Houston was 153 buck said. That was on pilot powers and braking to early on the front and back straight which buck told me where to do it. Now I think with better tires and better breaking spots maybe I could hit 150. So what class would I be in? And what do you win plaques, trophies or the good green stuff?

ok you just asked questions that would take a book to answer really...lol.

basically if you go to www.cmraracing.com you will find several answers to your questions.

your class will depend on your bike. theres a (1000) b (750) c (600) classes.

then superstock and superbike in each class. then a couple of misc classes.

I have a 1K so I can only race in 3 races.

As far as cost. Tires are the biggest expense. 300-400 a set. respectively.

about 200 or so for entry fees. gas, oil, everything else.

You can endurance race with some buddys for cheaper...but just to give you an idea.

as far as getting involved, you have to take a school to get your liscense through LSTD.

If youre interested, it'd be a good idea to go watch some races to kinda get familer with how things work, and surf the cmra forums as well.

then if you have some more specific questions holla!

basically its really expensive and if you dont like maxing out CC's then its not a good idea to start...lol

Thanks would I even be competitive now at doing 153s or should I do a few more track days first?

we dont race at MSRH, so you'd need to give me some times somewhere else...

if you can run about 2min at TWS (Texas World Speedway), you wouldn't get last in a novice race.
