Wreck on I10 yesterday

This is email that was sent.

I donít know if this was on the news or made the paper yesterday, but I saw a motorcycle accident up close and personal yesterday on the ride home and scared the sh*t out of me and gave me a wake up call. It was on I-10 headed towards Katy where the EZ Tag merges onto I-10 and the HOV lane narrows down and keeps going. I was on my bike and there was a car in front of me. I started to pass but thought better of it and then I saw this guy on a Ninja come flying up behind us and flew by me and was gonna pass the car in front of me on the driver side. She didnít see him and right when he was going to pass, she moved over and he ran smack into the back quarter panel of her car and hit her rear tire on the driver side and went flying off his bike into that concrete traffic barrier and disappeared in front of her car. I was rolling 80 or so and I know he was going 100 plus. She slamed on her brakes and started swerving trying not to hit him cuz he was rolling in front of her car I imagine and I had to hit the brakes but was scared to take my eyes off her and check my rear view mirror to see if I could move over cuz this was 5:00 traffic and I didnít wanna get run over from behind or run into the back of her. I was following at a safe distance for once thank !!! His bike bounced off the wall a few times and kept going down the HOV lane and eventually started drifting into traffic and cars had to slam on their brakes to stop from hitting the bike and it made it all the way across the highway before hitting the traffic barrier on the other side of the road right past barker cypress exit ramp more than a quarter mile up. Thatís how fast he was going. About 7 cars and me finally pull over and rush back expecting to find a dead body and the guy was getting on his feet. I have no idea how he survived and didnít break his neck when he hit that barrier. he was a little woozy and his knees were all scratched up, but he had on a leather jacket and helmet and nothing was wrong with his upper body that I could tell. The driver in the car was shook the fck up. Her back tire was flat but she was able to move out the way of traffic and the ambulance and fire truck was called. I stuck around to catch my composure and stop from shaking and then gave my statement and went home. Needless to say I drove the speed limit home and drove the truck today. Seeing that happen right in front of me was pretty dayum frightening. I just knew he broke his neck and got run over by that car.

Ninja in Katy? Any one?

that was a dumb move for him to pull especially in traffic.. Then again, that's also why people should look twice for a motorcycle, that too saves lives. All she probably did was glance and change lanes.

Good to hear the dude came out alive and fairly well.

If i'm on the road with my son and its between me wrecking trying to avoid a dumb hotshot on a motorcycle flying by or him getting what he deserves, well lets just say he's gonna learn his lesson the hard way that day. Besides, dont we hear and read these stories EVERY fukcing day by now? This aint rocket science. You speed in 5 oclock traffic, its gonna happen.

BS the motorist was 100% in the right of way. dude on bike was an idiot and a car shouldn't have to look for a bike in a no passing area........ let alone 1 going 100mph

you guys need to stop giving excusses for idiots, just cuz they're on bikes. and idiot is an idiot, whether on bike or in a car.

That may well be all that she did, but we can't say that's not to be expected. Sure it would be great if we could get all cagers to look twice for us, and we hope that they would. But the practical fact of the matter is that WE are the ones in jeapordy, and if we don't ride like a jack*ss, like this guy was obviously doing, then incidents like this would have never happened.

The thing that I remember most from MSF was to ride defensively...sure it's fun to hit it hard every once in a while, but there are routes and places for that...I personally don't think the highway with heavy traffic is a place for spirited riding. I'm glad the dude was ok, and hopefully he learned from this experience that while you can get away with doing that 1000 times or so, it only takes one time to prevent you from doing it ever again. That's just my 2 cents.
