I'd be more worried about the ricers than the squids because they have something to prove!

Hey has anyone here ever gone up to the top of the parking garage at night and ridden laps around it? Pretty fun. I think if you brought some little cones you could make an interesting track

Fixed.

I might be brave and ride one day when the weather is nicer. Do they still have those lockers in the UC you can rent? Anyone ever tried that???

Ah I think all it takes is going down once then you learn. Especially when your not at fault (technically I think your at fault always) but in my case f*ck that it wasn't my fault. I wont even get on w/o the gear.

Lol G'd up from the feet up.

I asked somebody once about why no helmet... He said it had gotten stolen, and he hadn't replaced it, yet.

I always wear my gear. I saw a woman on a cruiser without, but after she and I chatted a bit, I noticed she had one on her bike the next week.

yep. I see it all the time as well. Its not hard to carry a jacket around and the helmet.... I usually just take my jacket inside the Gym and put it in a locker that I bought for the semester and left the helmet on the bike..

I lived just off campus, on Varsity Ln., in a garage apartment. I wore my helmet maybe 1/2 of the time riding through campus, to the Architecture Bldg. Mostly wore just jeans, and maybe a denim jacket.

I guess I was a big squid to the gear nazis, eh? But keep in mind this was not much different than the norm for all the other riders on campus back then. This was back in '89-'92, so it was a different era, with different attitudes.

Even as such, being so long ago, a helmet is always a smart choice; but regardless of that, how is ATGATT gonna make such a huge difference in life or death, or skin graft level pizza elbows and knees, when you're going 10-15mph through campus?

Hypothetically, if I challenged you to jumping off some bikes @ 10 mph. I wouldn't be NEARLY as worried if I was in full gear, compared to none.

I don't really care whether other people wear any gear at all. I'll leave that to Racer X so he can maintain equilibrium. But let's face it, the more gear you have, the less time in the ER.

Some people take too many chances thinking they'll be ok. Just wear the helmet and gear. My GF goes to U of H and I might be riding mine up there on weekends, I just don't know where I'm gonna park it and lock it down.

I saw a guy Sunday morning riding his cruiser down Queenston in a pair of shorts only. I was gonna make a U-turn(in my car) and take a pic for you guys. I mean he looked like he just crawled outta bed.

I always wear my gear. I have a bicycle lock on my bike to run my jacket through. I always see people without gear on campus. I have met some cool bikers and some squids. Honestly I don't care. If people want to die its their initiative, but I gear up.

lately i've left the jacket at home. since the car is in the shop i'm bike only right now. so to eat dinner i leave the helmet at home. but i usually just go down to the bbq joint on the corner and i carry the bag home in my teeth. lol.it's like 100 yards. i football field. but they do say that a larger percentage of crashes happen within 5 miles from home. maybe it's fatal crashes. challen?

Have you ever fallen off your bike at 10 mph? Granted, any kind of fall isn't all that great, but I wouldn't be too worried if I only had my helmet on. I raced USCF Cat2 (Cycling) back in my day. Back then, even the Vetter bicycle helmets were nothing compared to the modern motorcycle helmet. I've crashed plenty a time at 20+ mph. The only safety gear we Cyclists wore were the helmets and gloves (and cycling gloves aren't really for crashing, but rather grip). Spandex bicycle shorts, and Racing Jerseys didn't do much to protect your hide, either, so road rash was a given. With that said, I never needed a skin graft for a crash, and that level of road rash heals in about a week. So at 10mph, how bad can your road rash get if you're going through campus with only a helmet on? At UH, you can get from Wheeler to Elgin without even getting on any of the perimeter public streets.

I'm not saying ATGATT is not smart. It's very smart. Even now, I'm ATGATT over 95% of the times I ride. The exception may be when I am doing maintenance on my bike and need to ride it around my neighborhood a few times, or riding down the street to the grab a bite to eat at the local Restaurants, or even go to the Kroger or my Office 1/2 mile away, but all these nose up in the air "shake my head... " and "Gear " posts are getting old, especially when it's about some kids on Campus riding through a few parking lots without ATGATT.

On the gear posts.

Yeah on my 10 mph I did the running man, then tumble back to my feet once. No harm done....not that it was FUN though.... That's all I was gettin at.

What's the route from Elgin to Wheeler without DPS catching you. I want in on this....
