Defensive Driving Question..

If you get a ticket on your bike, do you have to take a motorcycle specific defensive driving(riding) class, or will any of them do?

I need to get it knocked out before the 29th.

you can do regular defensive driving or a motorcycle safety course(advanced pref). For the Advanced course you bring your own bike.
Finally got tagged eh?

There is no such thing as "motorcycle defensive driving", coincidentally, this is what all the departments I have dealt with this will tell you to take, although they wont tell you were to find it (because it doesn't exist). Just go in and talk to the judge or clerk, it will be a hassle either way though.

I use to take that online DD so often I had all the answers saved in a txt file. Then just do a find on the txt file when a question came up. I would just watch movies on another monitor and go to the next page when the timer expired.

If you see our ps in the buttporn, don't judge her too harshly. She used to be catholic. We may need to do an intervention. After the party.

Check with the court to be sure. We've had some people come through that said they were specifically told to take the motorcycle course, no exceptions.

You're correct, there is technically no "motorcycle defensive driving". What they mean is a "motorcycle safety course" of which either the Basic (BRC) or Experienced (ERC) will work.

Meaning something and saying something is two different stories. The documents I have gotten from courts literally state "Motorcycle Defensive Driving". I have even made calls to TXDPS in Austin to try and get a clear answer and nothing. Every time I just told the courts "Look, I called this number of places in the Houston area that offer DD and none of them have ever heard of Motorcycle Defensive Driving" after talking with the clerk or the judge they have always allowed me to take standard defensive driving.

It's hard to justify taking BRC for a ticket since I have already taken it, and the cost of the class plus the time to take it would be several times that of just paying the ticket. But if you have never taken BRC before I highly recommend using it as a means to get a ticket dismissed if possible, at least your time is much better spent there learning then the boring DD classes.

Pyro,

Don't misunderstand. I agree that it's a bunch of . I really wish they would get their stuff together so we didn't have to deal with it. I'm the one here that usually has to try and explain this to people that are being told they have to find a "motorcycle defensive driving course" and it's not much fun.

And no, taking the BRC wouldn't make much sense for you since you've already taken it, but for someone that doesn't have their motorcycle license yet, it could kill two birds with one stone.

The ERC is only $80 which is also more than Defensive Driving, but it's a lot more fun, something that every motorcyclist should take every couple of years, and can get you a discount on your insurance which may make up the difference in cost.

Obviously, I'm a little biased. I HATE DD classes and would much rather sit in on a motorcycle class, but that's me.

Just some options.

Ya man I would love to take ERC, I have said I was gonna take it since the day I finished BRC with you guys. I just never seem to be able to work with the schedule when you guys have it.
