Economy.................

Aside from the money sending part of the this article, i thought it was good that someone decided to show that the immigrant worker can help the economy,at least locally, i live about a 1/2 mile from gulfgate and it has really come up. maybe the govt could tax any one who sends money out of the U.S. so they can get a piece of the money not being spend here. please ppl i know your oppinionated but not all immigrants are under the radar.

i would like to see a fittness gym go up around this area, at least it would be closer than the almeda "24"

PS: IMO the only thing bad about this area was the K-virus (katrina ppl), chit man are nola ppl that f'ing bad

Not possible, there's international laws for that, I'm sure.Besides, the companies here that set such transactions pay their taxes, so ther yo have it, in a way, anyone that sends money abroad pays something to the goverment.

yeah i know, its about $13 to sent a western union quick collect, and thats with in the borders to Chrysler Financial, what i mean is raise the fee to deter the money leaving to U.S. I was watching a show on how money is produced (printing and coining) and they mentioned that of all the dollars out there only 1/3 of them are in the U.S....... bringing that money back or making it harder for it to leave might help, and we all n=know that laws can be changed just write to your voted in polititians or burn your money in protest

lol..I know, but it doesn't work like that, our money in other countries give us strenght, in a way, also, if there was a way to get all the printed money back to the US, that would have a negative effect in our economy, because it's just paper. I'm sure if someone here that studies economics at college will be able to tell us the reasons. I'm a mere rookie when it comes to economics.

Did you know that countries, including the US, use gold as a measurement of how much money a country actually has? of course, in addition to other things like oil.

of course they can help in the short run but if you get to many it can really hurt the economy in the long run.

Scooter, you seem like a real nice dude most of the time especially the way you helped out the broke down guy I think it was yesterday. But I can't agree with you on this subject for these reasons: 1. These illegals have pretty much rebuilt what we still call New Orleans, much to the chagrin of the former residents who are REALLY living off of your tax dollars I might add, and 2. How are they sponging off of the government?? They mostly work for cash money putting up our houses, cleaning table and dishes, cutting grass and what have you, for very little money, simply trying to provide for their kids back home. As a human I can't fault them for that, yes I agree they should go through the proper channels, but who the can wait for a year or more for the red tape to clear up while there is a starving family staring at you?

dude, I was totally kidding with that post, seriously

and I agree, I would do the very same thing if I was in their shoes, anything to better my families chance at a decent life.
I was totally kidding with that post, just putting the illegal topic in this thread as a joke, thats all.

I WAS saying the Nolas are sponging off the government

people don't want to see them doing well. the people in control are only concerned about themselves, that's the problem. a massive self interest is criteria for being powerful

That's what I remember. Our money has value because the government says it does. It's not backed by gold.

It's been years though.
