lots of em

My 1969 T500 Sucksuki

wowzers, I finally had time to jack with it.
being that it is a 37 years old two stroke beast, first thing I did was pull the plugs and put a smidgen of marvel mystery oil in the cylinders. let that sit.

then I yanked both carbs off and tore into them, cleaned em and reinstalled and adjusted to a close beginning spot.

I sanded the point sets and made sure the gap was correct.

took apart the fuel petcock and disabled the vacuum assembly, basically removed o-ring and installed spring on opposite side (old harley trick).

check tranny oil level.

with the plugs out, I gave it a few good kicks with the old school kicker thingamabob.(no electric starter)

checked air pressure on tires and adjusted accordingly.

installed plugs and fresh gas and that critter fired up on third kick!

ringadingadingading.pow pow pow, revved a bit, ring a ding ading.
riiiiiiiing a diiiing ding rata tat tat (<~~ twist o' the throttle)
did some adjusting on the carbs and was riding this old beast around the neighborhood:icon_bigg
I rode it for about 20 minutes and was doing this (:icon_bigg ) the whole time. It will actually spin the tire when you dump the old soft clutch

old folks and their old bikes this is a pretty clean bike for being so old.

^ dig the front drum brake, also , there is a in the center of the bars, when tightened it squishes two friction plates sammich style against a wafer that turns with the front end, in other words, a very old school steering dampener.

surprisingly, this monster took first place at the Ilse of mann races in 69 and 70. It was a beast when it was released and tore everybody else a new .
I actually had it up to 60 earlier pretty easily, the manual said top speed was a whoppin 117 mph in stock trim and in race trim it was 146 mph! :laughing6 stock HP was supposed to be 47 YOWZA!
the clutch is pretty soft and needs adjusting, but will still spin the tire like a drag bike, who wants some

its just funny to read the sales ads for this bike and see how they herald it and its innovative stuff, like manual oil injection, funny stuff, My old buddy said he was racing a bmw back in the days when this bike appeared at the tracks and everybody (quoting him now) " was a buzz about it, it was the cats meow".
cracks me up, but I guess for 1969 and for a factory race bike to have high 70 hp and be able to throw it on the track with the factory pipes and all and whip up on the bikes of the day, funny stuff. put on the old leather half helmet with goggles and let her rip.
