CS Rider Killed

This is the most recent update. Didn't know him, but still sad. Rest in peace.

Southbound Wellborn is completely closed and traffic is being detoured to Old Main. Northbound Wellborn has been reduced to one lane.

According to the first information from CSPD, a car travelling north on Wellborn was believed to be in the intersection of Wellborn and J. Kimbrough waiting to turn left. The light turned red while the car was still in the intersection, and as the car was turning left to clear the intersection, a motorcyclist heading south ran the red and slammed into the car.

Police have confirmed that the motorcyclist, Robert Spencer King Jr, died as a result of the crash. King was 20 years old.

Motorists are being asked to avoid the area. Also Texas A&M is asking students, faculty and staff to avoid West Campus at this time.

Officers are currently in the process of reconstructing the fatal crash. Police expect Wellborn Road to be closed at least until 7 p.m.

+1, Wellbourne Rd's speed limit isn't much (I think about 35), The bike was trashed and that was a really bad dent (almost looked like a car t-boned it). My guess is that he sped up to make the light but it turned too quickly on him. Prayers sent for the rider's family and may he rest in peace!

My thoughts exactly but I believe Wellborn Rd is 40mph now. Either way it's apparent he wasn't doing the speed limit.

Depends on where you're at. Where the accident happened its only 35 mph.

Edit: But now CSPD will have no mercy for motorcyclists for the next little while.

No doubt. Give it a month and they'll be more worried about busting the parties, giving out PI's, MIPs, and DWI's.

Yeah. I have been really docile the past few months around town. But some of these idiot drivers just make you go on the offense to save your own . If being on a bike wasn't so awesome and convenient, I'd take a break till things calm down.

Be careful out there guys and gals.

They never had much mercy for bikes, but I bet they calmed down a bit after I left town. I know for a fact they knew about me. I had to change jackets and helmets often.
