IMO, for the $$$ you can do better than ICON. ICON doesnt make the best stuff out there, but its not the worst either.
I can say from experience though, that their helmets are and their jackets arent much better. I have a SuperDuty jacket and it has been retired. The zipper always gave me trouble, snagging and catching and generally not operating very smoothly. It has a button and strap closure on the neck/collar and within a year the button pulled right out of the fabric. Had to stitch in hook and loop closure to fix it.
The jacket did break in very well though, the torso was comfy, but tight enough to not roll up my torso in a slide. The sleeves (which were leather on my jacket vs. waxed cotton torso) broke in very well. I had to wear it around for a few weeks without the elbow pads in to stretch the sleeves, then put the pads back in. The sleeves did not get any looser after that point.

Having owned 2 ICON lids, I would not recommend one to anybody.
The jackets...well, like I said. Not the best, not the worst.
For the cash you can do better.
Go to Newenough.com, sign up for their email list and keep your eyes peeled. They have inexpensive jackets and sometimes they get put on closeout and get REALLY inexpensive.

Just my $.02

I think most of icon's popularity is some weird marketing that really works on noobs ('cause that's when I bought them). All of my gear is getting tired and I am planning to upgrade after tax season.
