Bummer.... No more kiddy joy rides.

http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/...t/6605913.html
• • Everyone in a vehicle must now wear a seat belt. Before it was only children or adults in the front seat. Children under 8 must be in a child-safety seat unless they are at least 4 feet, 9 inches tall.

• • Motorcyclists no longer may carry kids under 5 as passengers, except in a sidecar.

• • Drivers under age 18 may not use cell phones or wireless devices while driving.

• • All drivers are prohibited from using wireless devices in posted school zones, unless the devices are hands-free.

• • Teens under 18 must now take a road test with DPS before being issued a license.

• • For one year after licensure (extended from six months), teen drivers are not permitted to drive from midnight to 5 a.m., and may not have more than one passenger under age 21.

• • Truck drivers who smuggle “an alien” in their trucks could lose their commercial driver's licenses permanently, instead of just for one year.

was going north on HW-6 once, in the 55mph zone when I see a guy on a really old style scooter pulling out ..... thought it looked kinda cool so I slow down, let him catch up

he ends up next to me at a light, this is one of those scooters that have the seat set back and a LOT of foot space, and I see out the coner of my eye that he has his daughter (MAYBE older than 5, not sure) sitting kinda in his lap......

at first I didn't think too big a deal about it, but she was checking out my bike a lot so after sitting at this light for a moment and this girl just staring at me, I turn my head a little to look back

and almost dropped my bike

because standing in front of HER was her younger sister, maybe 3 give or take a little, they were BOTH in bikinis and they were BOTH wearing little pink cheap bicycle helmets

going down Hwy 6

at 4:30

in a 55mph zone.......

but I managed to grab a cop's attention and point the guy out

In many many countries around the world you can see entire families clinging to one moped. Mom, Dad, Baby in Moms arms, and child(ren) sitting on the floor or sandwiched between Mom and Dad.

Google images of just such things

I know it's our first reaction to try to judge all of these people as fatally stupid, and they may be, but its funny that the land of the free now legislates things like this.

I know, I know, the kiddos can't make decisions for themselves... I'm sure people today would want to call CPS on my father for letting me mow the yard when I was 5/6.

Not really sure where I come down on this. But it is certainly worth thinking about.
