Another racer in need of prayers...

I got word recently that my friend Jon Broom was hurt, and apparently it's very serious. Without specifics, it sounds like a closed head injury and he was flown from Cresson.

This occurred during the mini race on the 1.3 mile track.

Along with Zac Chapman, I know his family, Jon's son and S/O would appreciate prayers for him too!

Jon Broom, his family and I are very close. They stay at our house when they are down here for trackdays and races. His mom called me and told me the news. From what I know now, he is in a coma. He must have had a pretty good hit on the head. I play and hope he pulls through this and makes a full recovery. He and his family are very good down to earth people. This is certainly very sad news and hard for me to bare. I'm pretty tore up about it and it brings me all those memories of my accident back to light. He and his family visited me in the hospital and I plan on doing the same for him. bless him. He has a very young son too and he has sole custody of him.

I was just talking with him Friday, bs'n about the weekend and how he needed to get some laps in. The morning was so wet and he didn't want to ride I told him to just get out there and play.
It breaks my heart when these things happen to some of the coolest people I know.
Get well Jon, we know you can pull through this... ya just got too.

Jeezus, my heart goes out to Jon and his family. Great folks all around, super nice to everyone they meet, and Jon is a model of a weekend track warrior putting in his heart and soul into each bike he builds himself and each race he runs. Get well soon friend.

Update:
1: From Penny: Jon crashed at the track and got air lifted

2:Just heard from Penny. Broom is in a coma with significant brain hemmoraging, and they're going to keep him sedated at least a week

3: Broom is at Harris Methodist near Pennsylvania Ave in Ft Worth

4:Jon is about to go into surgery to relieve intracranial fluid pressure on the brain.

5) Still operating. Jon apparently went into seizures at the site of the accident and was going about 60 mph. The neurologist is less worried about the hemmoraging than the tears from the centrifugal and shearing forces.

This is all we have at the moment. that the neuro isn't worried about the hemorhaging says they got him there in time to relieve the pressure before any damage was done. That is good.

6) Jon remains in a coma, and the sedatives have worn off. He seems to be less responsive than he was several hours ago, and his lower body seems to be not very responsive at all. The doctors say it may be 72 hours before they can really determine anything, and it's a waiting game for now.

7) The doctor says Jon didn't suffer major lesions, but it may be at least 3 days before he comes around. Still positive news
3 hours ago

8)Alex Lee via Penny: There are 8-9 lesions in the brain, most are minor, although a couple are deep in between his hemispheres, which may limit the communication between them later, but this is positive news relatively speaking. They still need to drain blood... from his cranium. There were tendon tears in his neck, and they'll need to operate and have surgery there, but no major apparent spinal damage. Doctors expect at least three days before he wakes up.

Can someone post this on the CMRA board? There are a lot more racers in the DFW area, where John is from, that could lend a hand. THX,

Peter
