Other than the commiseration and a grim reminder to everyone who still has a bike, do these "keep an eye out for my stolen bike" threads ever work? Just curious and wish the best on a sucky situation.

waiting...

Same happened to me at an apartment. Doesnt matter if it a gated community. My 636 was locked w disc lock on front, chain around back wheel tied to a support beam of covered parking. The next morning, everything was gone. Bike was 3 months old and I spent the next year paying off a bike someone else was riding.. no gap insurance.
Sorry about your bike man. We just can't leave these bikes out where scumbags can get to them. Apartments especially. Good luck w recovery.

well even that wouldnt have helped lawrence he doesnt even post on MH...he may have an account but doesnt post, so i really dont see the point of having to do all the above. he is just well known at starbucks and you cant do anything about that.

Wow...I didn't think insurance would replace the actual bike. I thought they just reimbursed for cash.

Does your insurance go up if it gets stolen? If so, how much?

apparently I can't edit that anymore...

I called my insurance company and answered my own question.

Seems to me like just having a low deductible on your insurance would be the best possible thing.

My agent put in over 3 claimed thefts and it didn't raise my premium at all.

Doesn't help you guys with highly customized bikes probably because you wont get as much as you value it for, but still... not too bad.

I know everybody doesn't have access to a garage but that along with good neighbors, like the old dude down in Pasadena that protected his neighbors property with a 12gauge while they were at work, are some of the best anti thief devices out there.
