Talking 98 ZX-7 Ninja / HHHEEEELLLLLPPPPP!!!!!!

Hey what's up guyz...

This past Mother's Day I bought a 98 ZX-7 Ninja... Even though I always had liter bikes I ALWAYS since I was in my twenties wanted a ZX-7 Ninja...

The problem is that when I bought the bike the engine was already blown (which I already knew) but my point is I bought a 95 ZX-7 engine to put into the 98 frame... My neighbor down the street (cough, cough) took the bike apart with admirations of putting my new engine in...

Make a long story short that was two months ago and I'm still not riding, still not back at ASI, still not riding Allen Parkway, still watching other bikes pass me by while I'm cage'n it, plus have to deal with the agony of EVERY time I come home in my garage to see my baby all in pieces and there's NOTHING I can do about it...

I bought a new battery, radiator fluid, K&N oil filter, Respol Oil, NGK R spark plugs and wires for when the bike is ready to be reassembled...

Do any of you all know anyone of a KAWI expert, that can come to my house, or flat out give me a quote as to how much would it be to put my bike back together? The engine is mostly mounted but my neighbor ( Bless the big head #!@%*%) couldn't get that last bracket at the bottom to fit properly...

PM me or post up your help response...

Thanks Dudes and Dudettes...

Carey

I've done a ZX7 engine swap. although it was on a 94. Bracket at the bottom? I remember 3 or 4 engine mount bolts. Two up top near the front of the motor and one that slides all the way through near the back if my memory serves me right.

I dunno if that is a replacement.

Go to Kawiforums>Old school zx and zzr>Master 98-02 Swappable Parts

Check that, before you start having to fab motor mounts and whatnot...

yeah, come to think of it...94-96 were the same....your 98 frame may need to be fabbed for that older motor to mount up. I believe there was a write up on Kawiforums.com that may be useful to your situation.

AFTER A FEW MINUTES OF SEARCHING I FOUND THIS POST.

"All ZX7s from 96-03 used the same engine. But 96-03 engines will not fit in the 89-95"

With that being said, you may need some fabrication done to your bike for the motor to mount up correctly.

Sell the 95 engine and get the correct one... The price difference may be better than the fabrication...

Sounds to me like the right thing to do...Just sell the older motor and get the correct one, and at that time I could put the motor in and get everything back together for you, I'm rebuilding a 99' ZX-9R right now...Or if all else fails, I have an older ZX-9R frame and all plastics if you want that...
