Make sure and tell the inspector it is out of state, and a bill of sale is good to have as well

IIRC there's a special "bill of sale" type form you have to fill out too. The seller's signature needs to be on it.

I was looking to buy an outta state bike a few weeks ago so I asked the TxDOT about it and here's what they told me - hope it helps...

The only difference in transferring an out-of-state title opposed to transferring a Texas title is that you will be required to first get a Texas Safety Inspection Sticker.

To transfer and register an out-of-state title in your name, it will be necessary for you to first get a Texas Safety Inspection Sticker and then take the following information to your local county tax assessor-collector's office:

* Application for Texas Certificate of Title (Form 130-U)
* Your out-of-state title
* The most current out-of-state registration receipt
* Proof of insurance
* Driver license

It will be necessary for you to contact your local county tax office for further filing instructions and fee information. A complete listing of the 254 Texas county tax assessor-collector offices may be access on our Web site at: http://www.txdot.gov/drivers_vehicle...ax_offices.htm

Thank you for your inquiry.

thanks...........

hmmm........The most current out-of-state registration receipt

i would that would matter if you OWNED the bike/car and were moving to tx...........it has to do w/ taxes adn if you paid less in the former state you have to pay to equal TX's tax, or something like that.

transferring a vehicle from another state is easy.

the only additional paperwork is the green inspection sheet.

I've done it, and it was cake, in fact, mine was an out of state and rebuilt title that I was applying for.

You only need the title, title app, insurance, and the green sheet inspection

edit: cliff you beat me to it

Well put! This is correct. Yes out-of-state registration receipt. I had to ask this question twice as well. You have to show proof that you had/have registration in the other state.

I bought my bike with a California title. I didn't need a copy of the most current registration, just the 130-U, inspection, TDL and insurance. Easy. I had the title in about 5 weeks.
