At Least that's how it is in the COUNTY, and from what i hear that's the worst jail to be in! They take for EVER getting you booked IN and OUT

Good luck..... let us know how it turns out and EXATLY how many days you had to stay

Downtown is 100% different from Montgomery County....

I used to do it in Denton county all the time. My lawyer talked me into it to help reduce fines for the future. Its so simple. Go in around 11pm and they will get you processed as day 1 and at 12:01 thats day 2. In the morning hte judge will look at your confinment orders and sometimes let you go early and call it even.

I was innocent!!! Anyway, I spent 1 day in Brazos County jail (waiting to be picked up) and 5 days in the Galveston jail for a $238 fine. I never did make it upstairs to the real jail in Galveston but spent all five days in a holding cell downstairs. About 10' X 15' with a bench around 3 sides, a stainless steel commode (no lid) and a water fountain that took several minutes to fill a small cup. No bed, no blankets. 3 sandwiches a day. Bologna or salami and cheese with lettuce, tomato, mayo, and mustard. Coffee in the morning, cool-ade at lunch and tea for dinner, all served in a small styrofoam cup. After the second day the trustee would give me another cup of coffee or tea if an officer wasn't with him. After I was released, as payment, I left him 2 packs of marlboro in the public restroom that he was assigned to clean. Where we agreed that I would hide them will remain a mystery in case it is still being used. After 5 days I was given a county check for the $1100+ dollars cash that I had with me when I went to jail. I think the reason I never made it upstairs is they kept thinking that I would pay my fine since I had so much money on me.

Most small town jails aren't TOO terribly bad. County jails pretty much SUKK! I've been in League City for 1 day, Texas City for 15 days (what a dump and the officers are JERKS), Deer Park overnight (very cool LEOs. I actually sat and had coffee and DONUTS with them), Houston Dairy Ashford substation for 8 days (lots of drunks and bums), Galveston County for 3 days (that place is an absolute HOLE) and Harris County (both 701 and 1301) for 45 days (1301 is more like a prison than a county jail). Jail isn't a place that you really want to be, period. I've spent over 80 days in City/County jails in my life and have been through some situations that some people might not come out of in one piece. Trust me. Avoid it if you can.

I wouldn't have paid a $1 fine even if I would have had to spend a year in jail. Now I would pay the $1100 to keep from going to jail for a day. I think everyone should experience jail. Little or no punishment is taking place. It seemed that everyone knew each other, kind of like a strange family reunion with free food. By the way, if you decide to "do the time", don't let anyone see you throw away any food. For breakfast in the Brazos county jail, we got 2 slices of bread and a large hot link type sausage sitting on top of a bowl of fruit loops. The bowl held at least 6 cups of cereal. With that we got a 1/2 pint of milk. I immediately pushed half of the fruit loops, both slices of bread and the hot link into the trash can. By the reaction of my cellmates, you'd have thought I murdered a baby.

Food is a commodity in lockup. Use it just like money.

Had two warrants years ago. Sat it out for about 12 hrs before I was bailed.
Word of advice, wear white underwear and socks. And get use to the urine smell.

I have sat out tons of tickets and warrants in jail, but all of mine have been in Harris County. In Harris, they usually give you about $200 per day towards each violation. I've sat out over a $1000 dollar fine in 2 days as each violation got credited $200 dollars for every day I was there.

I have never sat out in Montgomery, so dont know how they do it. It may be only $100 per day.

I just read you said you would have to go to county.... did they mean Harris County? If so, dont even worry about wearing white, they stopped that. You will have to change clothes regardless. The way is used to be was if you had on white shoes, socks and underwear they would let you keep them and wear them after you were booked in and processed. Now they take it away anyway. Your going to get orange slippers, shirt, pants, socks, and even orange underwear from what I understand now.

But after sitting out tickets plenty of times (at least 6 or 7), I would gladly do it again. I looked at it this way. Spend 2-3 days in jail and save at a weeks worth of pay or more, rather than spend 1-2 weeks worth of pay. I'd rather lose 2-3 days of pay.
