Machine Shop Owners ?

This doesn't seem weird, does it?

Anybody here own a machine shop with some fancy or even not so fancy CNC mills and or lathes? And would you be willing to let me hang out and obvserve and possibly take pics of some machining operations.

I guess it does sound a bit weird. :eh:

If not you can always enroll in the machining program at North Harris College.

yup, i took a materials and process class at UH. we learned and did hands on about lathes, drills, cnc programming, injection molding, molding, and many more. but then i did pay around $1000. was a required core class for my major.

i guess u would learn how much to feed, chips, and etc...been awhile since i took the course. but then this wasnt what you were looking for, hehe

Yeah, I've been wanting to do that for years now. Not sure if I want to take the plunge just yet. For now, I just would like to casually observe. I have a weird way of analyzing things before I actually do them.

electrical power tech and computer engineering tech. but this is a core course. all engineering and tech majors have to take it.

if you want to go more in dept, mechanical engineering should teach you more.

Eh? Really? I thought you worked at a pipe yard or something like that. Is this your home shop?

nope, I dont work at a pipe yard, we run a company that "bucks" on coupling and other odd critters onto pipe for clients. basically we have the ability to screw big stuff together. this ability requires a lot of maint. on equip. we make jaws, ring gears etc etc, full machine shop to make our stuff, and also anything else I think I need for the Harley

I'm hiring another machinest today to get the stuff going again, I dont mind you coming out for a bit, lemme get back to ya when a good time would be. we have a lot going on right now and I dont have lot of time for babysitting and being a tour guide. If you wanted to help the machinest with odds and ends for a day prolly would be ok. What are you thinking, just kinda watching the stuff work? yesterday on history channel was an awesome show on machining and the history of the development. show kicked
