Motorists opens fire on hells angels

By MATT APUZZO
Associated Press Writer

WEST HAVEN, Conn.

A motorist opened fire on a group of 's Angels motorcyclists along Interstate 95, killing one and injuring another, police said.

The bikers were traveling near West Haven around 3:30 p.m. Sunday when they were shot, said State Police spokesman Sgt. J. Paul Vance.

Police were considering a number of possible motives including road rage, and authorities across the Northeast were alerted to look for a green GMC sport-utility vehicle with Florida plates, Vance said. He said police believe four men were in the vehicle.

One of the bikers, Roger Mariani, 61, of Stratford, pulled over before realizing he had been shot in the upper torso, Vance said. He later died at the Yale-New Haven Hospital.

The injured biker, Paul Carrol, 37, of Bridgeport, was grazed by a bullet, treated at the hospital and released, Vance said.

Members of the motorcycle club gathered at Yale-New Haven Hospital Sunday night, prompting police to station officers there to keep order, though police spokeswoman Bonnie Winchester said there were no incidents at the hospital.

The investigation snarled highway traffic for hours, bringing cars to a standstill on Interstate 95. Vance urged anyone who witnessed the shooting or anything suspicious in the area to call police.

My guess is the motorist better be more afraid of the HA getting him thatn the police.

more info:
The shots were fired in near Exit 42 on the southbound side of I-95. It happened in broad daylight, in heavy traffic.
's Angel Roger Mariani was hit and killed and another biker was hit and injured and there's talk today that the shooter may be from a rival motorcycle club.
Witnesses say the gunfire rang out from an SUV driving in a nearby lane. Seconds later, two 's Angels members were down. Paul Carrol of Bridgeport was injured and 61-year-old Roger Mariani -- believed to be a leader of the club -- was shot through the torso and later died.
State troopers worked late into Sunday night. This morning, their unit that specializes in motorcycle groups was back on the case.
Major crimes investigators have spent hours interviewing witnesses who claim they saw the murder unfold.
Police are looking for more help. They believe the shooter was one of four people in a green SUV with Florida license plates. There are unconfirmed reports the shooter is from a rival motorcycle club -- The Outlaws -- which is also active in Connecticut.
Police all across the northeast are searching for the vehicle. If you have any information, state police ask that you call them at 203-696-250

and another article:
Boston Globe, United States - WEST HAVEN, Conn. -- One 's Angels motorcyclist was killed and another was injured yesterday when someone in a vehicle opened fire on them on Interstate 95, police said.
Alerts Roger Mariani, 60, of Stratford, was killed in the shooting, State Police said. Mariani was affiliated with the Bridgeport chapter of the motorcycle club, said Sergeant J. Paul Vance, Connecticut State Police spokesman.
Mariani was among a group of bikers riding southbound on the highway near Exit 42 in West Haven when the shooting occurred around 3:30 p.m., police said.
Police across the Northeast were alerted to look for a green GMC sport-utility vehicle with Florida plates, and Vance said police believe four men were in the vehicle.
Police were considering a number of possible motives including road rage, Vance said.
Specialists in gang activity also were called in to review the case.
Vance urged anyone who witnessed the shooting or anything suspicious in the area yesterday to call police.
The investigation snarled traffic for hours, bringing cars to a standstill on I-95 and the southbound side of Interstate 91.
Mariani and Paul Carrol of Bridgeport were taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital.
Carrol was treated and released, Vance said.
Members of the motorcycle club gathered at the hospital last night, prompting New Haven police to station officers there to keep order.
Police spokeswoman Bonnie Winchester said that no incidents were reported at the hospital.
The 's Angels Motorcycle Club is active in Connecticut with at least two chapters, the Nomads in Bridgeport and a Hartford-based group, according to its web site.

I can't believe they didn't run the guy down, I mean seriously, aren't they supposed to be bad or something? If I had a gang and someone shot one of my gang members I'd chase the guy down, not pull over and call the cops.

from what? being 70 years old and subsequently forgetting why they were there due to the more-than-likely alzheimers? couldn't they (the police) have been out looking for the guys that shot the riders?

Maybe back in they day. Nothing but VP's and CEO's just out role-playing now-a-days.

Could have been the loud pipes that set off the shooters.

dont believe that for a second, some of these take it way serious and will do what they feel in needed as evidenced by the recent shootings in Texas and this case
